Hi all, I haven't posted here in a while, but I have been entering my mileage logs faithfully! :)

My HCHII is really starting to come into its own. I don't really do anything special when driving except set my cruise at the speed limit, maybe 2-3 mph over, and I try to coast to a stop as much as possible and accelerate smoothly and slowly from lights. Since the weather warmed up here, I've really been doing well. I just finished a tank yesterday that was 505 miles, 49.7 MPG. That makes now 5 straight tanks of 500+ miles and 49+ MPG. With gas prices here nearing $3 per gallon (I paid 2.959 yesterday), I am REALLY enjoying having a hybrid.

I LOVE MY HCHII!

It does seem to get even better with time, doesn't it? Glad you're enjoying driving it, getting record tanks and saving money. Can't ask for more than that.

I can't help but feel a touch of envy when I see the gasoline prices some of you have been experiencing. Gas has been around $3.40/gallon in my area for months now, and on the run to Sacramento I made earlier this week (I had to use our truck as I was hauling a lot of equipment) I paid $3.80/gallon.

wburke8302 - welcome back! :)

It took several months to understand my Honda Insight - a couple of things I was oblivious for six years!

Wes: I use cruise as much as possible and come in at + or - 50 mpg at every fill up! I'm happy:) H

Psy; I don't no how you can get that kind of milage out of one of those! You must work everything out there, in order to pull those miles out of her? H:Banane10:

Great job, Wes! Glad you are a-pleased with your lovely car.

I totally understand about hitting the stride, although there's also something to be learned from the bumps along the road. My HCHII is almost 1 yr old, and I enjoyed getting 50-54mpg for the first few months. It was awesome and invigorating. Then the winter arrived and it was a struggle to reach 50, but it was an inspiring struggle, pushing me towards improving my techniques.

Then near the end of winter when I hope things will start to bounce back, BOOM- I get a dead Oxygen sensor and the MPG drops ~10% for 2 months until the replacement part arrives! I practically ignore hypermiling out of frustration, and the loss of functionality (such as glide, ev-assist).

Now with the repair, the car and I have emerged unscathed and we gleefully watch the MPG gauge head back where it belongs. It feels like emerging from the ashes reborn and triumphant. OK, pardon the hyperbole :)

So very recently I had two back-to-back record round-trip work commutes: 61.2 and 63.5mpg (~40 miles one way). Today I am on target for 64!

Goes to show there is also room for growth. And the satisfaction that comes from it.

Cheers,
Keith

Wonder why the oxygen sensor had to be changed so soon? Any changes made to your car? I have a 06 as well. H

Harold-

The O2 sensor just blew one day. Guess it's an infrequent problem, but not infrequent enough, since the backorder was ~2months for the part. I hear about the same sort of issue often enough with other people talking about their car troubles.

You'll know if it happens, with the 'service engine' light on, and you'll lose glide ability.

I understand that the 02 sensor is a pricie item, so I'm hoping it is not a common problem with the HCH 2. I think yours is the first I have noticed on the HCH2. Did Honda make any adjustments to the fuel system? H

After 1 year, our 2006 is also doing very well with no problems and much higher FE than last year at this time under similar conditions.
