View Full Version : The Do it Yourself Tahoe Ads

GM has a website so people can make their own Tahoe SUV ads. This article (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/03/31/chevys-make-your-own-tahoe-commercial-not-exactly-going-as-pl/) links six of them. Apparently #1 and #4 were censored.

I can only imagine the submissions if it was a DIY Hummer ad. :D

Tom,
That is really interesting. I like it. It's short but I guess that is the way they are suppose to be for a Commercial. Brief and Flowing.

I think the Last shot on the Mountain Top sets it off.

Question? How Long did it take you to do that?

It took me about 20 minutes at work. The chevy website has all the tools and helps you edit the video. Its for a contest.

I have Googled articles and found there are thousands of spoofs now. It's been a long time since I had such a good laugh.

The DIY Tahoe ad contest could be iconic of what is wrong with GM. They seem to be in a world of their own, oblivious that a large part of the market is alienated and has lost confidence in them. I'm sure that GM has dismissed the anti-Tahoe ads as a handful of extremists, not representive of the mainstream public. Their thinking seems to be a desperate denial of the world of 2006 while pretending it's 1996.

Cold Blooded :D

HS suggested at GH that the anti-Tahoe ads were actually good publicity.

Katz6768 came back and responded - "Yes, just like your anti-hybrid posts..." :p :p :p

I just keep wondering about HS, so much hate... does he work for Honda ??:D

In any case, even if he is "for-real", I honestly believe he is helping Honda and Hybrids.

He seems to be a 20-something guy that ran his Insight into the ground, then gave the dealers just as hard a time, then carried that abuse to the forums....is not taking responsibility for his actions. What got me infuriated was his initial flame-bait, then during a very sensitive thread Chilly and I were trying to mend fences, HS jumps in and screws it up. He simply dampens any hybrid advocacy any chance he can get - it's happened a lot less now that the tolerance for that has been reduced. Somehow, my reaction to his initial meanspiritedness, then persistant hybird agnostism is "rude".

Sorry Tom. You're quite right, we shouldn't make it personal.

About the Tahoe Ads, I do feel that we are going too far making fun of a good product built by an honest All-American company. After all this is a free enterprise society where any one should be able to offer the products they wish to promote. ...just kidding ...I just don't have the creative wit to add an ad. :(

While the Tahoe spoof ads might send a message to GM, it's the potential buyers of them I'd like to see "get it". Pride is a motivating factor - if they knew how many see jumbo SUVs as a scorn symbol rather than a status symbol, they might buy something else.
