I don't have a garage, and I'm sure the energy required to operate it would be way more than just backing out of a garage, but here it is none the less.

View Full Version : Found this hypermiling gadget on one of our google ads. tbaleno 05-11-2007, 10:21 PM I don't have a garage, and I'm sure the energy required to operate it would be way more than just backing out of a garage, but here it is none the less. http://www.carousel-usa.com/ xcel 05-11-2007, 11:08 PM Hi Tom: ___That is just so Hypermiling friendly it makes me sick! I have to get me one too :D ___Good Luck ___Wayne highwater 05-12-2007, 03:54 AM Actually if you had one something like this, installed in the garage floor, and came in with just enough speed, and slightly left/right of center, and stopped at just the right spot...it would rotate 180 from the momentum of the vehicle. I'm with you guys on the payoff. Randall c0da 05-12-2007, 09:12 AM Batman had one. I wouldn't mind having one. Someone should find out the price. tbaleno 05-12-2007, 10:57 AM Looks like 21K http://www.carousel-usa.com/Residential%20Models.dwt dixonge 01-24-2008, 11:06 AM 21K - so what's the break-even on that? xcel 01-24-2008, 11:13 AM Hi Dixonge: ___7,397 years, 8 months, 4 days and 3 hours. Not including finance and opportunity costs of course :) ___Good Luck ___Wayne koreberg 01-24-2008, 05:17 PM I wonder if you could use some of those car dollys and spin your car around manually, provided you don't have 2 cars in the garage. Not automated but you would only have to spend about 600. 98CRV 01-24-2008, 09:11 PM Does the Bentley come with it? Can't say I'd try to hypermile it. ATL 01-24-2008, 09:21 PM with the slope of my driveway I can FAS into my block, then cut the wheel so I can slowly roll backwards into my driveway/garage but then I have the same slope to go back up when I leave..... and when you are in a camaro and the driveway is covered in ice you get stuck in the driveway (+1 point for FWD this winter) ---------------- Now playing: Orgy - Gender (http://www.foxytunes.com/artist/orgy/track/gender) via FoxyTunes (http://www.foxytunes.com/signatunes/) iamian 01-25-2008, 06:08 AM Should be able to make one for far less than buying one I would think. You need a flat surface that can easily support the weight of the car and can rotate. I guess the catch would be you would need the time and skills to make it yourself... neat idea... pay for itself in fuel saving ... not likely... Be a fun project or fun to watch... heck yeagh!!! Now All I need to do it wait until I don't live in an apartment and have a garage to tinker in with. Euroford 01-25-2008, 08:38 AM If one was built that was weighted (balanced) correctly, then there would be no need to power it. It reminds me of something I saw on TV just a few days ago. An eccentric British fellow (not me) collected trains, and actually had a "turntable" he drove his full size engine on to so he could spin it 180 degrees and drive it back and forth on his private track. It was human powered, and spun a 20+ ton train engine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turntable_(railroad) I wonder if you could use some of those car dollys and spin your car around manually, provided you don't have 2 cars in the garage. Not automated but you would only have to spend about 600. FYI Koreburg, they sell pairs of car dollys at Harbor Freight for $79.99. Obviously pretty cheep, but plenty capable of what we would use it for http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=32052 SlowHands 01-25-2008, 08:53 AM there's a Harbor Freight store not far from me in Arlington Heights... I have to leave my wallet in the truck before I go in or there's big big trouble. As it is, they usually lead me out the door after a few minutes because of drool ;) Euroford 01-25-2008, 09:50 AM there's a Harbor Freight store not far from me in Arlington Heights... I have to leave my wallet in the truck before I go in or there's big big trouble. As it is, they usually lead me out the door after a few minutes because of drool ;) LOL. I have a similar problem, it's compounded though by the fact that Harbor Freight's east coast distribution center is in Dillon SC, which is less then 20 miles from where I work. They have a huge store inside the distribution center... Ouch! Ever been to a Northern Tool store? (http://www.northerntool.com/) It's kind of like Harbor Freight accept the tools are infinitely better quality, and there's even more stuff!!! vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
