Hey all, this seemed to be the most active forum I can find regarding hybrids in general and the HCH in specific. I find it hard to believe that there's no dedicated forum for the car that I could find.

I actually couldn't find much at all about the car in the form of discussion, specifically about the '12. Are they scarce? I've read some pretty negative reviews about the '12 Civic in general, but I have to say that I can't really understand the criticism. the '12 HCH is a pretty great car so far. In fact we trade two cars for this one (and a motorcycle) and I feel pretty great about it. The amenities are top notch. The HCH beat out the Prius for us, mainly over things like USB audio, leather interior and overall comfort. The Prius felt cheap to us and the HCH felt like a more premium car, in the leather, at least. I can't understand the flack about the dash materials and other stuff as well.

One of the cars we traded was an 04 Saab 9-3. A very nice car and about $35K when new. The HCH matches many of the 9-3's features and adds more that the Saab didn't have (fuel econ, USB, etc.). The other car we traded was an '05 Corolla and there's no comparison at all when you put that car up against the HCH. Balky, unfun driving, bland, cramped interior, and a lot of other mediocre features.

Another reason we went to Honda was how we were treated at Toyota of Iowa City. The attitude there was, "These are the prices. You pay them and leave with a car, otherwise, it's Friday and we don't want to deal with you." I was very, very disappointed. We'd dealt with these folks when we bought the Corolla and they were alright. This time, completely uninterested. I'll never buy from them again.

The folks at Honda, on the other hand, bent over backwards to make sure we got a car we felt good about. Very welcome change.

Anyway, long story short, I'm really pleased with this car thus far. We can't wait to drive it back east later this month and hope that it'll be a great car for us for the next 5-6 years.

Any other '12 HCH owners out there? What's your experience been like?

congratulations. there is some discussion at Edmunds:

The Civic hybrids are all made in Japan, so you can't really compare them to American made Civic (non hybrid).

In fact, the hybrids use many different parts to make it lighter, so I'm not sure how much of the 2012 Civic bad reviews would even apply.

enjoy it!

Welcome aboard. I have a 2006 HCH2 and I think it is the best car I ever owned. I just got back from Colville Wa. 60 miles sth of us and averaged 62 miles per gal [US] 3.8 liters. per 100 kilometers for the 120 miles. I was in the process of purchasing a Prius when I decided to purchase my Honda as well! I did purchase a Prius for my wife a few years later , so I have one of each. The HCH2 is my driver however. Keep us up to date on your 2012. H

Congradulations on purchasing this fabulous car. I just bought my 2012 civic hybrid. I have had civic's for over 20 years. Honda cars are extremely dependable and long lasting. This is my first Civic Hybrid and I love it. I bought it at the end of Sept. and with over 2500 miles on it I am averaging 55mpg easily . I looked up on the web how to drive Hybrids for the best fuel effiency and I hope to be able to get in the low 60 mpg. On 2 separate trips each traveling over 100 miles each I have gotten in the low 60's mpg. This car is extremely comfortable inside. The interior is not cheaply made and the controls on the dash board are so easy to use and user friendly without risking your eyes being taken off the road in order to see the controls. The car is extremely quite to drive with hardly any road noise. I reallly look forward to driving this car everyday. I bought the hybrid with the leather seats and in the driver side the back of the seat is also heated which feels so good on my sore back. I also saw the bad write ups on this car and do not understand why as this car is everything that they said it was not. It is very roomy, plush, easy to drive , quite inside and terrific on mpg. My sister has also bought one a week before I did and she loves hers also. This car deserves a much better write up from the "experts " out there. I also have not been able to find any forums about this car either except for this forum.

Welcome to CleanMPG, grey! In the few days since you posted your intro above, have you had the chance to measure your actual fuel economy? The '12 Civic hybrid's 44/44 EPA rating should be easy to beat - especially if you hang around here long enough. :D
