Hi my IMA is about to die on me.

And i do not intend to fork out cash to replace it.
BTW this car is not under any warranty of any sort.

So is there any of you driving it like a 1.3l civic?
And may i know if the car would start if the IMA is totally dead?
Is there an alternator to charge the 12v batt?

THanks alot!

Bummer! Yes, it can be driven, but there is not an alternator to charge your 12 volt. You would have to home-charge it and that would limit your driving at night greatly.

What is dead, the IMA system or the nimh battery only?.. sounds like its more than battery issues.

I mean the nimh battery. It is because it cannot store charge anymore.
I predict it will be gone anytime soon...

Hi WSG:

You should see a code pop and even though it is out of warranty, Honda has in the past replaced batteries for hundreds of IMA customers that were far beyond their warranty period.

Go to your local Honda dealer and ask if you do in fact have the IMA Light of Death showing to find out.

What generation is it: first or second? Just curious.

If you could drive it without the IMA battery, it would still be pretty hamstrung: the conventional starter would be doing the startup, AutoStop would not be working.

Contact Re-Involt? I believe their rebuilt battery is around $1700, plus shipping, if you ship them yours.

That's the Better Battery new price. The rebuilt is around $1k.

Does Better Battery have a website?

Better Battery is the name of a product. It is only offered here:

http://www.hybrid-battery-repair.com/

Ron's been at this for a while. I don't think he currently has a pack configuration for the HCH-II but I do expect that to change soon.

Dunno, I sent an email to them about 2 weeks ago asking on the R&D status of a BetterBattery for the HCH2, and haven't heard back yet :(

Anybody have an alternative method for contacting Ron? Been just shy of a month now, and still no response to my R&D inquiry.

Alternatively, maybe someone's got the size/shape specs on the HCH2 NiMH batteries and I could just go at it myself sometime. I vaguely recall them being the same size as C cells, but with threaded contacts, but I forget the exact particulars.

Wow that sounds great. Is it really that easy to remove and install a new pack?

In an HCH-II, yes.
