View Full Version : How does a normal HCHII behave?

Hi Guys

My HCHII IMA does not hold charge very well. (IMA light is on 2 weeks ago and it turn on and off since then)
For example when i drive to work and park, the batt guage shows 6bar of charge,
When i go home in the evening, those 6 bars will be gone mysteriously after a few assist when stopping and starting at traffic light junction. Then i will end up with only 1 bar.
This "fake bar" symptom happen all the time after i park and move out the next day.

Due to that, there is some changes to my driving style. Currently i need to consciously charge my battery for approx 5~8min. (that mean i do not step on throttle on a down slope, i will allow the car to enter 70kph and glide down for a few bar of regen )
After which the batt will show full charge of 7~8 bars.
Then this is when i go and execute my hypermilling/ gliding technique.

When i am required to enter the small road when almost reaching home, i will try to coax the HCHII to use full assist while rolling at approx 40kph. I know i succeed when i see that my RPM is at 1k and the FC guage is at full bar. I can gain a few more point for my instant FC reading by doing so.
I only manage to execute this for approx 200m

Now i am curious how does an normal HCHII with good IMA battery behave?
Do you need to do the battery charging ritual as mentioned above and how long can you hold while travelling at 40kph with full assist?

Thanks and i wish you a great fulfilling day!

It sounds like your pack is getting old and has a week cell and this is pulling the SOC down and causing the re-calibration to take place. This is not normal. If the IMA light is coming on take it in and they will probably replace the pack?My HCH2 uses the SOC down to 4 bars then starts the hidden charge at every chance it gets and uses much less assist. It only assist for a short period and falls off. The IMA is used softer than when I first purchased my HCH2. It is performing as well still as when new. I am very pleased with the FE. H:)

If your IMA light is coming on periodically I'd relay this to the dealership, if you haven't already. Get on their radar, theyre could be a new pack in your future. It seems you have to fight for them though, and have a dealership willing to take your side...

I hate to joke at other's expense, but: what you have is a normal HCHII.

True true.

I'll happily sell you my 2006 with a brand new battery pack. Might be easier than getting the dealer to get you a new one.
