I wonder why the six-speed manual doesn't do better than the four-speed automatic on the highway. I noticed this on the 2007 Honda Civic as well.

When I bought my 06' Civic I asked the dealer the same question. He told me that "Honda has made many improvements to the transmission and they've almost got it as good as manual now." It was probably just part of his sales pitch, but that's what he said  . Not sure I believe him or not.

c0da,

I guess they have made some improvements. But, I'd still prefer the six-speed manual (better for hypermiling).

gear ratios, the manual gear ratios are tuned for accel, while the autos sacfrafacing their punch for lower rpms at the same speed.

That makes sense.
