"There’s definitely a trend back to the hybrid as soon as the gas prices get higher, but especially that $3 range." (http://www.nbc12.com/news/state/6843032.html)

When gasoline prices rise in Virginia, the interest begins in earnest for cars like the HCH-II.
Gas prices have been rising for nine straight weeks now, but not everyone is upset about it.
There really isn’t much good to say about prices that are getting closer to $3 a gallon, unless you’re driving or selling a hybrid car. The estimated miles-per-gallon for one of these cars is in the 50’s and 60’s, so it’s no wonder these cars are such a hot commodity lately.
Car-sellers say that when prices are down, people really don’t have much motivation to buy a car like this, but when prices shoot up, the hybrid is back in the spotlight.
“Any time the gas prices start to spike up, you see a lot more people coming in, calling in, talking about, asking about the Prius,” says car salesman Kevin Slater.
“There’s definitely a trend back to the hybrid as soon as the gas prices get higher, but especially that $3 range," said J.P. Bo, another salesman.
Here’s a look at some of the numbers. The national average gas price is $2.71 a gallon. The average in central Virginia is $2.60.
The lowest price right now, according to NBC12’s Pump Patrol, is $2.41 in Petersburg, and the highest, coming out of Glen Allen, is $2.79.
