View Full Version : 8th gen Civic : Where to mount Scangauge ? EdwinTheMagnificent 08-07-2011, 03:11 PM I finally pulled the trigger on a Scangauge(thanks to Wayne's sweet deal) , but I'm not sure of the best place to mount it. My main drive is an 08 Civic sedan. Where do you guys mount yours ? Kacey Green 08-07-2011, 06:12 PM On my '09 I had them in the flat part under the spedo to the left and the right on my '12 I have it directly under the spedo under the hood of the iMid/Speedo Harold 08-07-2011, 06:15 PM Forward [nearest to you] part of the dash in front of your nose. Lines up perfect and is just above the steering wheel for viewing. H Kacey Green 08-07-2011, 06:31 PM the reason I chose the shelf area was to avoid the discoloration the cable caused in the dash plastic's paint anywhere else and to keep them closest to the gauges I was already using, the instant FE gauge and the fuel gauge. Harold 08-07-2011, 08:59 PM I tend to watch the s/g more. H EdwinTheMagnificent 08-07-2011, 09:24 PM Thanks , guys. I can't wait to get it installed ! regor 08-08-2011, 06:06 AM Get a dashmat for your dash, put the velcro on the bottom of the SG and mount it above the speedo, on the dash. That is where I have mine adn it is very secure. Mendel Leisk 08-08-2011, 02:15 PM Mounting mine in Prius, for now I just put a couple of loops of painter's masking tape on the underside (makes improvised double sided adhesive), and pressed it down on a flat section of the dash, front-and-center beyond the steering wheel. I'm just a bit leary of the adhesive velcro strips supplied (not wanting to commit to a location yet, and worried about adhesive residue), and wanted to leave my options open. It's held up suprisingly well thus, for a few weeks now. I've even pulled it off and put it back on once or twice. Patman 09-05-2011, 02:55 PM On my 2006 Civic coupe I don't have it permanently mounted, as I'm afraid someone might try to steal it, so I stuff it in the center cupholder when the car is parked (and I close the sliding part so you can't see the SG2) When I get in the car I simply stick the SG2 in the spot right behind the shifter. I will admit it's a little inconvenient for looking at while driving though. Right Lane Cruiser 09-10-2011, 09:38 PM So how did you decide to mount your gauge, Edwin? EdwinTheMagnificent 09-11-2011, 06:32 AM Hi , Sean. I still have not mounted it , I'm either resting it on my lap or holding it up with my right hand. But I think I want to mount it on the shelf just behind and to the right of the steering wheel. The only tricky thing ( in my mind) is how to hide the cable so it doesn't hang up on anything but STILL be able to take it out of the car easily. I've already hooked it up to both of my daughters cars and scanned a coworkers car. Everyone who has seen it wants one too ! I'm going sailing today so I won't be able to work on it until Monday evening. EdwinTheMagnificent 09-11-2011, 06:41 AM Regor, I thought about that location and placed it there to see how it looked. But it was not at a favorable angle and was a little hard to read. Right Lane Cruiser 09-12-2011, 07:38 AM Edwin, you'll want to get that mounted (at least in a temporary location) as soon as you can -- it is quite dangerous to be looking as far away from the road as your lap on a regular basis!! I recommend getting it as high as you can so that your eyes need minimal deviation from the view ahead to get the info you need. Not only does it make checking quicker, it allows you to maintain surveillance with your peripheral vision quite effectively. EdwinTheMagnificent 09-12-2011, 08:59 PM I can't argue with that.
