How Long Does it Take Your Car to Completely Warm Up at 60F? (I mean completely)

How do you measure compleately?

I'm not sure, but more is involved than getting the coolant temperature up to 195F. It just seems like my maximum FE cruising speed takes 10 miles to happen.

uh 60 F? lol it hink my car starts much higher than that... (48 degrees C by the block heater)

if your wondering how long it takes for me to get to operating temp, i'd guess only 2 km to reach 70 degrees C (full hybrid mode) and by that point my score would be sitting at 40 mpg (after climbing a mild hill of course)

4 miles... with the grill and radiator blocked off. And the wheel wells sealed up.

Hi Chuck:

___Less then 2 in the Accord unless I am Warm-up P&G’ing. Then maybe 3 tops at 60 degrees F.

___Good Luck

I clicked on the 10 mile choice. And its the truth. I can pull some 60 to 70 mpg segments in 3 to 5 miles. Fas'ing to a point excel would tear up. Uber fast shifts to the point that a short throw shift and bushing kit would make a ricer spring wood,,, for all of maybe 35 mph. And if I could make a living driving short city. I would be more worried about my gas going bad than spanking mpg monkey. And looking for a good chain lube for a ped powered slow two wheeled thing. ( yeah right,,, LMAO )

I haven't measured oil and tranny fluid temps in the Civic. My Fluke meter will do it. But,,, honestly I don't see the point. 195 to 200F water temp and running M1 in the crank case,,, pretty much lay's it out,,, IMHO....

I have to admit not knowing the answer, but it seem like my best FE is after about 5-10 miles. Gut feeling is once the coolant reaches 195F or whatever, some parts of the car is still warming up. This could be more prounounced in the winter.

Is it possible that this is just a mental thing and my car is warmed up well before ten miles? Maybe.

I haven't viewed my temp gauge for a long time--I just check how long it takes to get to EPA (50mpg) and that's usually within 6 miles.

I couldn't really say as it hasn't been 60F since probably aug/sep of '06! The warmest it's been in the morning lately is about 15F. WHen it's zero degreesF out I'd guess it takes my car about 5miles or so to warm up to where it gets good mileage, that's with light load 25-35mph flat road. The engine cold light goes out at 138F water temp but I start getting good mileage once it's at 160F+. Full running temp is 188F on my car. Even with just a 4quart cooling system it seems like it takes long for the water temp to rise and put out some heat in my heater! Needless to say, in the winter if I can't park in the garage, I suffer for half my commute.

akxb,

That reminds me of an off-topic fantasy - spend a week for a week at the South Pole. Without leaving Earth, it would be as other worldly as you can get.

Well the Prius is kinda funky. It won't "warm-up" till the block is at 75 c. There are a few things that it lets you do at this point so it's easy to tell even without a SGII. Most of the time I don't hit this special behavior till I pull into the parking garage at work. 14 miles.

I am planing on grill blocks and an engine block heater so I can get the special (Stage4) behavior by the time I exit the highway for the back roads into work (5 miles into my commute). I need the SGII for that though.
