View Full Version : Help with Scangauge!

I just installed my scangauge yesterday and a couple gauges aren't showing up. One in particular I was trying to use is LOD. When I select it, no numbers ever appear - it's just blank. Any thoughts as to why this might be?

Thanks!

Welcome to CleanMPG.

Some searches return results suggesting it should work well in your car. I'd contact the vendor or Linear Logic and report the problem as it seems you need a replacement.

What other gauges have you been trying to display? I've seen some evidence that certain gauges do not like to be displayed at the same time -- one or more of the choices may not show any output.

I don't know if I remember exactly which gauges were displayed at the same time as LOD, but I'm pretty sure I had MPG and AVG, and probably MPH.

Hi Kstruve:

Take your ScanGauge out of the Subaru and hook it up to another car and see if LOD appears. Strange that it would simply display a blank given that parameter's data should be streaming within the data stream but we have seen stranger things?

So I went to the coffee shop this morning and selected LOD again to see if I would get anything. At first, nothing, but then it displayed "20" and got stuck there. Then on the way home, it switched to "4" and stayed there until I got home.

I should try it on another car to see if I get anything different.

Thanks

Isn't LOD based on air flow? Maybe you have a faulty MAF/MAP sensor?

Okay, so I just tried it on my ma in-law's car, which is an Oldsmobile Alero, and everything worked fine. So I reinstalled it in my car, and the LOD and IGN and another gauge that I can't remember right now still aren't working.

So it seems the SG itself is working fine, just not all of the features are working on my car. :(

How does the SG calculate engine load? Can I create an X-gauge for it somehow?

I'm not sure how LOD is calculated, but if my MAF sensor, (or MAP) sensor wasn't working, I'm sure I would have a check engine light.

I would think so too... just making sure we aren't leaving anything out... ;)

If I remember reading it correctly from somewhere... LOD is the ratio of torque being used to the total available torque at that speed. I think I read that in the Ultragauge manual...

In short... LOD should be showing up, because it is a calculated parameter derived from others which your vehicle seems to be displaying, so something is not right... like you and xcel suggested, try it in another vehicle.

EDIT - found it, per UG manual. Should be similar to the way SG derives it, but it is vehicle dependent.

%LOD = (current air flow)/(peak air flow) OR %LOD = (current engine torque)/(peak engine torque)

In your vehicle, the MAP/MAF sensor may not be needed. Does your SG read anything for MAP?

No, I'm not getting anything for MAP either. My car is turbocharged, so I changed the setting to BST, but I still don't get anything for that gauge. I do have a turbo gauge that came with my car and that is working.

Your car is probably MAF driven and not MAP then. That's fine. I guess we won't know more until you can try it in another vehicle...

I did try it in another car this morning and posted about it. See below:

Sorry, I must have missed it! Hmmm, that is odd... next suggestion would be to contact Linear Logic and talk with them...

Thanks Brandon. I'll have to talk to Linear Logic and see what they say.

Finally got a answer and solution from Linear Logic on my problem with my IGN and LOD gauges not showing up, and their answer is below:

"I spoke to one of our engineers about the issue you are having and he suggested that you switch the update rate on your ScanGaugeII to slow. Please refer to page 15 of your user manual (if the cover of your user manual is red and black) or page 23 (if the cover of your user manual is light blue)."

And ... it works! I have to put up with the refresh rate being pretty slow, like every 3 or 4 seconds, but at least it's working now.

Well how about that! I wonder if that would solve the issue with mine as well... I'll have to test it when I get it back from my friend.
