Came across this article today. Apparently Canada's legislature has put a "green levy" into their federal budget, where fuel-efficient vehicles get a rebate ($1,000 or $2,000 - the prius, the civic hybrid, and the FEH get $2,000, many others get $1,000) *AND* where guzzlers get a surcharge of up to $4,000.

Would this be considered a carbon tax (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_tax)?

If you are charging more for things that are tearing things up more, that sounds like capitalism to me.

Here in Okiehoma for instance.

I paided $750 or so for my Civic's TT&L

A buddy of mine just purchased a Lexus SUV of some sort. He paided well over $2k TT&L The icreased cost is due to some idiot formula the state uses that includes weight/size and MSRP. Not to mention he is paying alot more in fuel tax a year than I am.

This sort of tax and such is wrong. Much like the hybrid tax credit. Who got the credit in the end. Most of the dealers. They just priced the cars over MSRP by 2k. Now that the credit is softer so are the prices.

Reminds me of something that happened years ago in Arkansas. Gov. Clinton and his clan decided to raise tag and tax fee's. Got it pushed thru. Then they figured out. Folks will not pay it. Cops wrote tickets, Judges issued warrents to arrest folks for not paying tickets and going to court. Clinton had to come on TV and roll the law back to the old standard. Begged folks to tag there cars, motorcycles, trucks, RV's, and such. The jails were full of folks refusing to pay the increase in tax and fee's. No room for murders and robbers. I myself didnt tag my car or motorcycle for over a year because of his idiot move.

I sure hope our country dosent get on this band wagon. I will firmly be in the other camp. And I hate to say it,, and I hope it never happens. But it could be a seed for another revalution. :(
