View Full Version : 2011 Toyota Prius TSpirit Blog and fuel consumption figures
maxalan 03-29-2011, 05:59 PM Hi, just thought I'd post this before I pick up my new Prius tomorrow evening. I'm swapping my Ford Mondeo Diesel hatchback for a 2011 MY Prius and plan to use this thread as a Blog to keep a record of my journeys and experience in the Prius.
Anyone following my twice daily updates from my (now old)
2009 Ford Mondeo 1.8 TDCi Blog and fuel consumption figures (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37469) thread, via the link to a spreadsheet shown in my signature, can keep on following them. I'm planning on creating a new worksheet for the Prius so my daily commute (and other journeys) can be compared to the Mondeo.
If I don't post tomorrow, it'll be because I'm out playing with my new car. Daily updates will resume on Thursday morning.
ksstathead 03-29-2011, 06:04 PM Congrats! You'll love it.
ItsNotAboutTheMoney 03-29-2011, 06:31 PM Congratulations on your new purchase. Is there a car being bumped out of the household?
As a hypermiler you will enjoy the Prius. I get 1.887gal/100mi, (1.572gal/100mi Imperial). I expect you'll do better. You have the advantage of flatter terrain, a more temperate climate and less rain and other precipitation.
Enjoy the glide... :D
maxalan 03-30-2011, 05:47 PM One word. 'Wow'. Love the car. What a great drive home, even if I did put it in park at traffic lights and couldn't remember how to get it back in gear for a minute or so. Note to self ' remember to put your foot on the brake pedal before engaging gear.
Reading all the manuals now. Can't wait til tomorrow when I can drive it again :D
ItsNotAboutTheMoney 03-30-2011, 07:42 PM I expect after your diesel you're enjoying the quiet.
Sitting engine off, glides and EV are just something different. My experience in a Prius makes me want a BEV even more.
Have a great day tomorrow. :D

You're not kidding! I can also hear the engines of passing cars or those while stationary at traffic lights - it's quite surreal. I had a scare today too, when at lights the engine came on when I wasn't expecting it to - something to get used to I suppose.
Edit: Achieved 64.9 mpgUK today on a 60 mile round trip. Given the car's only done 1600 miles, I hope to get a lot more when it's bedded in and done a few more thousand miles. Looking very good so far and was most definitely the right choice of car.
maxalan 04-07-2011, 02:55 AM Hi, just a very quick update to say sorry for not posting any fuel consumption figures this week. Unfortunately for step father passed away on Monday and it has been up to me to make all the arrangements. I'm not sure when I'll post again, but I'll continue at the very latest in about another weeks time.
BTW: Since filling up with fuel the FCD says i've averaged 65.7 mpg over 330 miles.
Right Lane Cruiser 04-07-2011, 07:41 AM I'm very sorry to hear about your step father. :( My heart goes out to you and your family.
maxalan 04-28-2011, 07:18 AM Thanks Sean,
It took much longer than expected, but mostly sorted out now - just paperwork to deal with.
I started recording my fcd figures again for anyone who's interested. The last real consumption figures calculated by filling the tank was 66.7 mpg. It's early days, but still very impressed, not just with the mileage but the car overall.
I've updated my signature as well.
ItsNotAboutTheMoney 04-28-2011, 08:11 AM Your urban rating for the Prius is wrong. It should be 72.4 mpgUK.
Right Lane Cruiser 04-28-2011, 11:13 AM Hi, Colin -- the database form takes USmpg and calculates from there... but it doesn't accept anything but whole numbers for input. The closest that can be managed is 60mpg US. I've swapped the urban and extra-urban numbers, though.
maxalan 05-03-2011, 06:12 AM Thanks (I think). Why did the city and highway mpg figures need to be swapped around? It doesn't seem to have made any difference to my overall mileage figures!
ItsNotAboutTheMoney 05-03-2011, 06:20 AM The ratings were the wrong way round for the car.
Swapping doesn't make any difference because CleanMPG's calculation is 50/50 (although the EPA combined uses 55/45, I think).
Right Lane Cruiser 05-03-2011, 07:04 AM Because of the hybrid powertrain characteristics the Prius is rated for better fuel economy in city driving than highway driving. This is backwards when compared to conventional vehicles.
