Reps. Michael Burgess Burgess (R-Texas) and Michael Honda (D-California) talk about the car they both own; the hybrid Toyota Prius. The bipartisan meeting came amid the debate on the Energy Act of 2005 and in celebration of Earth Day.

It's standard form for lawmakers who meet top auto executives to talk about what cars they own and why. Judging by the comments at last week's congressional hearing on fuel-economy standards, Ford might want to send a dealer over to Capitol Hill.

During Wednesday's Q&A, Rep. Mike Doyle, D-Pa., congratulated Toyota for building several hybrid models and praised his own Ford Escape Hybrid, pressing the other executives on why they didn't build more hybrid models.

I haven't done anything to that Ford Escape hybrid but put gas in it, and **** little gas in it, and it runs perfect, and I've never had a problem with it," Doyle said.

General Motors Chairman Rick Wagoner quickly offered that GM was rolling out four hybrids this year and would have 12 models on the road by 2008. Rep. Michael Burgess, R-Texas, said he tried to buy an Escape Hybrid, but Ford had sent most to costal areas. Burgess drives a Toyota Prius instead.

"It serves its purpose. It gives me a good deal of moral superiority when I drive," he said.

One congressman who didn't fess up to hybrid ownership during the hearing: Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., who drives a Toyota Camry hybrid.
