Good Morning Everyone,

I was thinking of creating a pdf file that allows us to log daily log, separate from tank log that we currently use. Do anyone have their customized log that I can follow the pattern, create a pdf file and post it here for download? Or is there such a document already?

Thanks,

Scott

I'm a geek. :eek::o:p My wife: :rolleyes:

I use a little pad of paper in the car, then load into Excel when I'm done.

Things I track daily:
Date
time
direction (into town or back = downhill or up)
kwh used for battery charger
temperature (ambient)
temperature (coolant) - to track the effect of a warm engine
final temperature - grille block and warmup effects
tank fill level (F+, F, 3/4...) - low tank level gives slight improvement due to weight loss
Fuel type gas/E10
mpg
miles
odometer
wind
humid yes/no
wet/rainy yes no
notes

Tank log:
Date finished
Odometer
miles
gallons filled
gallons SG predicted
(calc'd) SG offset
kwh used
$ spent
$/gallon
$ saved vs epa mpg
mpg
mpg compensating for pump variances
average temperature (averaged from the daily log)
miles and gallons from fill to F on the gauge (calc'd from miles and mpg)
mi and gal from F to 1/2
mi and gal from 1/2 to E (low fuel warning light)
miles past E
% highway driving vs commuting
Fuel type gas/e10
fuel brand

And then I have charts correlating many of those to each other. I have a predictive calculation that 80+ % matches actual results. In other words, conditions have a HUGE effect on my results, despite my best or worst efforts.

Ok, here is what I have so far, any more feedback?

date|time|direction|kwh used|temp (ambient)|temp (coolant)|final temp|tank level|fuel type|mpg|miles|odo|wind|humid y/n|rain y/n|notes

Make whatever YOU want. Some of those are probably not needed for anyone else. I've got my system in place.

I'll have to admit I don't really have a log outside this site and fuelly, and I've been meaning to start one...eventually

I don't really know how much I've saved since hypermiling, but I guess starting to track now is better than never. I've always just written down my MPG and miles for my segments, commute, and tank for the daily grind page. I guess finding out the some of the "geeky" details would help my quest! :D

Yeah, I was trying to make it more easier for newbies to just download, print out and use on a fly. Then eventually they can change to their own log. Just a thought to create template, especially for those new users.

I keep notes in my iPhone Notes app (which comes with the phone) but don't keep the particulars in a database anywhere. I do have separate files I use on my computer to track tank data.

Here is my new log for everyone: Daily Grind Log (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=89&act=down)

Check it out and let me know what you think!

My Trip Log is written in a little notebook that is then put into a spreadsheet

Date|Destination|Miles|MPG|Notes

My Fuel Log Spreadsheet shows...

Date|Odometer|Distance|Cost|Gallons|Fillup Cost|MPG|Type|Brand|Highway|Temperature|Days

I'll print it out and give it a try...thanks Scott!

I at one point logged every tank on a spread sheet. The computer has been formatted so I lost it all. But I tracked MPG, tank miles, total miles, cost per gallon, and total cost. I may have missed one or two, but I even was able to figure out how much I was saving with the SG. In the first year I had my Honda I spend about $3000 in gas, but I had saved almost $1000. I calculated it out to paying the equivalent of $1.58/gal if I remember right.

ETA: Just checked, as I had it on my Facebook profile. I spent $3017.22 and saved $942.59. I paid an avg of $2.309/gal which works out to paying the equivalent of $1.587/gal.
