Hi all,
Saw a very interesting article today from my google news alert for "Prius". :D Apparently the X-prize foundation is going to offer a prize for the first 100MPG car that sells a certain (as-yet-undetermined) # of units.

As an aside, is there a way to suggest articles? I come by a lot of interesting stuff just having this alert set up.
Hi Jared:
___I will get that one up later tonight or early tomorrow morning as it is a good one! I have posted one or two little articles about it so far (search for “Aptera”) but this one is far more recent with more detail then the past articles IIRC?

1) Over the past several decades, the promise of the “car of tomorrow” has remained unfulfilled, while the problems it was supposed to solve have only intensified. The average price of a gallon of gas is higher than at any time since the early 1980s. The Middle East seems more volatile than ever. And even climate skeptics are starting to admit that the carbon we’re pumping into the atmosphere might have disastrous consequences. To these circumstances, automakers have responded with a fleet of cars that averages 21 miles per gallon, about four miles per gallon worse than the Model T …
2) NEW YORK - Angry motorists, frightened politicians and three-dollar-a-gallon gasoline are stirring new interest in alternative kinds of vehicular transportation that don't weigh two-and-a-half tons and get 13 miles to the gallon.
In other words, it's car of the future time again ...
___If you are interested in posting something for the home page, I can make that happen as I know you have a little coder in you and the vbb code used is simple compared to what you do for a living ;)
___Good Luck

Too bad they weren't giving the money to the first 100MPG driver. I think there are a few people here that would push themselves to try for a 100MPG tank.

That yellow Aptera was the first prototype. You can see photos of the more finished product, the Aptera typ-1, at :http://www.treehugger.com/files/2007/03/the_future_is_h.php
They have reduced their estimated mileage to 230mpg. Aptera Motors also has a website at http://apteramotors.com/
