View Full Version : Where are all the CR-Z's?

I'm been doing a lot of research on these cars and have really become interested in them however, I'm concerned that by trying to make the car 'sporty' Honda has compromised FE materially.

There seems to be almost no CR-Z owners posting here (maybe I'm missing them??). If you're out there, I'd love to hear how fellow HM's are doing with this car. I drive almost exclusivly around town (suburbs) so I'm most interested in the 'city' numbers.

I'm able to get right at 40MPG in my MT Civic with mild HM techniches when driving back and forth to work (hoping to push that past 42 this summer). I'm wondering if I'd be able to hit 50+ in the CR-Z.

Once it warms up a bit, I plan to take one out for a spin and see what I can do.

I've read about rumors suggesting that Honda may be coming out with a non-hybrid turbo version in the future. I'm hopeful that if they do this, they'll then dial up the hybrid models FE with better gearing and more support from the IMA - making it a modern day CRX HF.

Personally I haven't seen one on the road around me yet. HCH are pretty plentiful, I see them a few times a week and the Insight's are a weekly sighting but the CR-Z's are non existent at least around Pittsburgh.

I believe Wayne found that it had a significant difference between Eco and Sport mode and that if you wanted to get good mileage out of it you could.

I've seen exactly two... and they were both on the local Honda dealer's lot.

Iv only seen one CR-Z on the road. Its a good looker but it really only appeals to people who can live with a 2 seater so I dont think you will see that many at least not for sometime.

I am in the NYC area, and I have never seen one on the road. Even the Insight (II) is rare. Last CR-Z I saw in NYC was parked on the stand at the auto show last year.

Wayne has a writeup on the CR-Z but I don't know of any members who own one.

They haven't been well received.
MPG nut forums have slammed them to some extent.
AND sports car forums have also slammed them.
Sports car folks are under the impression that a "better" version is right around the corner, so why buy this compromised one?
One of our resident Okies drove one and had a generally unfavorable impression. He compared it to earlier Honda sporty and mpg capable vehicles and didn't think it compared very well in respect to mpg, sporty feel and 20 years Honda had to make a better car.

I've seen one, in a showroom. Strikes, at least for me:

Strike #1: Manual transmission. No offense, my hat's off to anyone with the gumption to drive a manual, but it's just not for me.

Strike #2: 2 seater. Deal braker.

Strike #3: Fuel economy comprimised for sportiness. Sorry, but sporty and fuel economy are too much at loggerheads for me. It might very well make sense to some customers, but not to me.

#1 is prob the biggest attraction for me - a new MT Hybrid (in addition to the styling- which a was not initially keen on - until I saw one in person)....

#2 is not a big deal for me - if I got one it would be a 'fun' car and additive to the current fleet.

#3 is really my biggest concern. I don't want to spend the money on one only to get 2 or 3 mpg better FE than I'm getting with my Civic.

I to have read all the poor reviews out there. I frequent the CRZforum.com site often and most of the guys there really like their cars - however the majority of them are not overly focused on FE. Everyone seems to agree that its a good blend between sport and economy. Which unfortunately makes it a jack of many trades but master of none.

I do wonder if Honda will recalibrate their strategy for the future if sales remain tepid.

I just finished a road trip to Southern Cal. And Arizona. I saw some and I might add they are one fine looking Sport car and probably will give great FE if that is what your after. If two seats is good for you, then this should be a beauty all round set of wheels? Hal

I've seen a couple on the road in my area. DieselLover had one but he's out in Scotland somewhere and ended up dumping it because the fuel and the road taxes were too high for him.

It is too bad there isn't a manual transmission hybrid like the first gen HCH available anymore with the mileage it got. Aside from the non-folding rear seat that is a spectacularly efficient and reasonably practical vehicle.

I've seen one or two on the road here n San Antonio. At first I thought they were Insight II's.

I sat in one in my local Honda dealer back when I had the seatbelt buckle in my car replaced a few months back. There were a couple of others on their lot as well, I think.

I've seen one parked in a local downtown area.

I haven't noticed any others, but I haven't really been looking for them.
