I have been using the scangauge II on a 03 Ford Focus and there is one issue that i can't figure out, when sitting at idle, foot on the brake, the lod is at 70-75, which can't be right

when i start driving it goes down then back up but short of full throttle it won't get to 80lod

it has always done this, and i have tried to calibrate it properly but still unsure

I also use the scangauge II on my 97 civic and it works perfect but for some reason it isn't with my Ford Focus?

thanks for any help

The only thing I can think to try is to use your scanguage to pull trouble codes and write them down and then clear them. Possibly one might be an ecu problem. Probably not, but its very easy to try and I can't think of anything else.

If you are using the 'driving with LOD' (DWL) technique and that value works for you otherwise, I would just ignore it at idle.

If it is an automatic, try dropping into neutral while at idle. There is quite a bit of drag in an automatic transmission at idle.

there are no codes present but the idle lod really isn't what has been bothering me, its the fact that when driving it almost seems to go in the opposite direction, i mean i would be giving it almost full throttle to get 80 lod

I will have to try and see if putting it in neutral at idle changes anything, and then i could reset it there and hopefully get a proper reading

Your use of LOD under normal driving is to find the LOD numbers that give you the best results, regardless of what they are. Like many calculated readings out of the scanguage like horsepower, its a relative reading and shouldn't be expected to be the same on different cars.

I have 2002 montana 3.4lv6 and 2010 Ford flex 3.5L v6. They are more similar cars than different in weight, power, displacement. Cruise behavior on the Montana means shoot for LOD = 9. For the Flex, LOD = 14.

See what LOD is around your desired speed range and see how mileage is affected when you try to drive one LOD value lower as a target

i have been trying to find my lod value for getting up to speed, that's where the problem lies, at least that's the area i am concerned with and for some reason the lod seems to jump around more in my focus then my civic, and what has me scratching my head!

Not sure how the ecu computes LOD, (off vacuum and RPM values maybe?) but one of your sensors may be flaky.

How does your MAP gauge work? I've compared my gauges, and on my car 80 LOD roughly equates to 12 psi MAP. That makes sense, with 14.7 being ambient / full throttle.

ill have to try it out and see if it is near there
