I'm being lazy, but someone mentioned a recent Top Gear article about a Honda clean diesel Accord. Keep in mind Jemery Clarkston is a die-hard gearhead (appeared on a YouTube video and tuned in a Prius for a redneck to shoot up).

Quoted FE of 92 (or 93) mpg. Flags go up. I don't doubt it's efficient. It's probably British mpg (their gallons = 1.2 of US gallons?) Then how did they test the fuel economy? I suspect even the old US EPA standards were tougher.

If it gets 50mpg on the new EPA, it would still be impressive.

Hi Chuck:

___This is going to be good ;) I highly doubt a TSX sized automobile (Accord in Europe) can achieve mid 90’s in UK gallons on the Extra-urban cycle but if anyone could figure out a way to do it, Honda could. The current Civic w/ the 2.2 iCDTi is not even a 60 mpg rated automobile under the Euro test cycles so how would a larger automobile with a similar diesel perform 50% better?

___I think I know a way to achieve 90 + US over a tank with the Civic and the iCDTi but it wouldn’t be sustainable over a lifetime …

___Either way, Prius III or an 8th gen Honda Accord w/ a Clean iCDTi – Prius III or a an 8th gen Honda Accord w/ a clean iCDTi … I cannot wait to hear more about both as the fall of 08 approaches. Good choices all around in my book :D

___Good Luck

___Wayne

Finally refound the link > http://www.autoblog.com/2006/06/12/video-top-gear-attempts-800-miles-on-a-single-tank/

It's not an Accord (seems Civic-sized), but very interested in what Consumer Report's or the EPA would say.
