If you have Darude's techno classic Sandstorm (http://www.zianet.com/jw_laurie/Sounds/Sandstorm.mid) - play it now for this slideshow - it fits. (the link is for the midi file version of it)

It was after 2:30pm on Feb 24, 2007 after completing the Cowtown Marathon in Fort Worth. The good news is it did not rain during the race, but it was definitely windy. That afternoon it got worse - up to 50mph. For those that were at Tonakawa Oklahoma, just add dust - I could taste it from inside my car.

I got 63mpg driving to Fort Worth before the strom, but it was 68mpg for the round trip - the wind was at my back going back home. ;)

This is the downtown Fort Worth skyline from I30 and I35W. An hour earlier it was bright and sunny.

Downtown again. Note: this is dust - not snow!

Heading east of downtown on I30 with the wind at my back.

Heh. All-time favorite techno/dance track.

Those pictures are pretty wild. Does this happen on a regular basis or is it just a fluke kinda thing?

Even for Texas, this is rare. It made me wonder if this is what the Great Dust Bowl of the 1930's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dust_bowl) was like. Two thirds of Texas had drought conditions - below average rainfall the past five years.

Can't rule out the possibility of climate change.

We had some of this here. Funny thing was,,, south of the house it was sunny and pretty. North of the house it was orange sky. Nasty red dirt from the southwest parts of Oklahoma. The cars are covered with it...

We had a bit of it here in Longview, 2 hours east of you. It was eerie.
