Hi CoasterToasterXB:
___Does NJ have a Court Supervision like program like IL. and WI.? You can plead to the judge and he/she may allow a 90 day probation period in lieu of a ticket touching your record. This can save you a bundle on insurance. I had a few tickets in the far distant past for speeding but in IL., the court supervision deal saved huge $’s back when I was a stupid twenty something. I am a mid 40’s type now but oh those were the days ;)

Go to Court and see if the Judge will let you take the Safety Class and there will be nothing on your record then.

It's called Defensive Driver's Class in Texas.
You can take it to keep a ticket off your record. It's also not a bad idea to take it every two years to save 10-15% off insurance rates. So tempting to go for an insurance discount and raise a few issues discussed here. ;)

sigh add me to the list of tickets since my 4 years of driving.
The road i have to stop, its almost like a merge to the main street (because you don't turn after the stop sign, you just drive straight merging on the rightest lane of the main street). But doing my usual check mirrors, shoulder check and then beat that car turns out a cop was waiting for me at the next street. Stood in the middle of my lane and told me to turn right, he was watching me all along!
150 bucks well spent, but i told him , "you got me, even though i really wanted to keep my momentum." And he said "yeah sorry i know with the hybrid you got, it doesn't like to be stopped so you use the gas engine to get going again, but you know a law is a law and i was hired to look at this stop sign particularly because its a high collision area." I gave him his thanks and drove away thinking, "there goes my hypermiling savings."
BLEH at least the cop was nice enough to offer some financing options, but i told him it was no problem to pay off the ticket.

Hi All,
I got probation on my only ticket in the last 20 or more years too. The guy I tail ended was pulling a scam, I think. I had seen him on the side of the road talking to driver of the car behind him 3 times before just past the same stop sign. I made sure the police got involved. He was ready to take me for 500 bucks and run - big smile on his face. The cop took one look at me went over to the other guy and his car went over and grilled him for a half hour. Then let me go. Apparently, they had gotten reports about somebody in a car like his pulling this stuff.
His trick was to stop at a crosswalk, which at this intersection is 10 yards behind the actual stop sign. Due to the angle of roads and being slightly uphill, the stop sign is blocked from your vision by his car at this point. So, the expectation is he is stopped at the stop sign, not at a cross walk. All you see is the white line, which reinforces the expectation. So, he pulls out when there is a slot in traffic, briskly for the ten yard and stops just beyond the stop sign, just short of merging with the curving road that goes past this road. He waits for you there, while your looking down the road to the left for an opening in traffic. When the traffic clears, your attention is to the left so to merge with traffic. And he just starts rolling, but not fast enough that you can avoid running into the back of him.
They put in a stop light there now. No more chance for that.
