View Full Version : Ethanol Free
cswee1932 10-09-2010, 08:26 AM So, about a week and a half ago, I was near a local station that sold ethanol free gas, so I gladly filled up.
Not a bad tank, 58.19 mpg with upstate NY weather starting to cool down...I'll take it!
Its not even winter yet, and I cannot wait until summer!
My goal this coming summer will be to crack 60 multiple times.
Chris
Hi Chris:
Welcome to the club and with ethanol free fuel, 60 is almost guaranteed in the summer if you can control the urge to run with the pack :)
Good Luck

JusBringIt 10-09-2010, 02:09 PM Where in Schenectady do you find ethanol free gas? I know there's some in Guilderland, but that's a bit too far to be driving for the stuff. Also, welcome to Cleanmpg.
p.s. boy that title had me thinking something else.

The ethanol free gas I found was in Watervliet, I was near the area after work a couple of weeks ago so I stopped in, wasn't much more than regular gas either. It was a Pit Stop gas station, I know they have one over in Troy as well, and one in Amsterdam.
The one in Guilderland is way overpriced. I'v noticed also that the few places in the area that sell Ethanol Free are extremely limited with hours as well.
Yesterday I filled up at a regular Sunoco since it was closest.

rfruth 10-09-2010, 07:43 PM If it's home grown ethanol, bring it on. What are we waiting for, the middle easterners and oil companies to buy up all the ethanol producers?

Ok, I know the station over by troy, I believe it's right next to a Napa auto store. I've never needed gas when I'm over that way however. I was over in amsterdam today (went by to get to gloversville), I need gas, but havent bought any yet. Would have been good to know. Either way however, I need to get my sg recalibrated so I have to fill up at this new station I made my regular over in scotia next to the 24hr wal mart (hess).
JohnM 10-09-2010, 08:14 PM I gas up with Kwik Fill in Rochester. In the last 2 months they stopped selling Ethanol Free. They said that NY state forced them to add Ethanol because they did not refine it here. It comes from PA and all their crude is American. I have noticed a drop of about 2 MPG. Too bad.
Is there a list of gas stations that sell Ethanol Free?
JusBringIt 10-09-2010, 08:32 PM If any list can be made, we would have to compile that list ourselves. Maybe we can create a NY thread and list it in case we are travelling anywhere in NY. It might work if we combine other states at a later time, but a separate thread listing all the ethanol free stations in NY by street and city would be a good start.

Just got home from there about an hour ago...Walmart that is! I don't understand all the parents there at all hours with young kids.
I work in sales for Frito Lay, and every once in a while am in some of the supercenters at odd hours to deliver, and I never once remember Mom and Dad taking us grocery shopping at 3 a.m. Guess thats a good thing.
Sorry I got sidetracked :-)
What part of Schenectady are you in if you don't mind me asking? We're (My GF and I) just off Ave. B, still a quiet block....
Chris
JusBringIt 10-09-2010, 10:23 PM I never understand the deal with parents and their kids at wal-mart. You see the craziest people there too!
Avenue B? I could probably walk to your house in less than 20 min (not that I would!). I'm on Foster ave, lower side of Union college if the name doesn't ring a bell.

Haha, Nice! Hello Neighbor! Funny...I'll have to keep an eye out for someone else driving around slowly :-)
As for the Ethanol free gas Stations, I found these two useful... http://pure-gas.org/ and http://www.buyrealgas.com/
They seem mostly up to date...

reagle 10-12-2010, 09:03 PM I see quite a difference between E10 and regular gas- the car has way less power and needs a lot more prodding to go up the hill. I too was filling up at QuikFill, but that lasted a few months and now is back to E10 :(
hunter44102 10-15-2010, 07:29 AM A few days ago I saw an article that says they approved 15% ethanol, so we will start seeing that pretty soon, which sucks!
There are no 'ethanol free' stations within 40 miles from where I am, so I just have to live with it
rfruth 10-15-2010, 03:12 PM E15 yea, now lets get away from corn based ethanol:rolleyes:
JohnM 10-15-2010, 09:00 PM I called a couple of the Kwik Fill gas stations in the links above and they said that all Kwik Fill gas stations in NY now contain ethanol.
It will only get worse.
JusBringIt 10-15-2010, 09:09 PM I have a feeling they will just upgrade all pumps to E15 and see what happens. Of course it's always fun seeing people spend money they DON'T have
Hi All:
The E15 write-up and two rebuttals have been posted on CleanMPG for over a few days already???
More Ethanol to be allowed in Cars (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35414)
Farm and food groups oppose EPA decision on corn based ethanol (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35427)
EPA allows the sale of E15 (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35425)
Please Read the Home page and forums AMAP as we try and provide when it comes to our members interest and mission.
Good Luck

reagle 10-19-2010, 05:44 PM I am finding that even with E10 I need to buy at least 89 gas to have the car perform reasonably peppy. With 87 E10 it just does not want to move. The mileage seems to jump quite a bit with it, so maybe it'll pay for the price difference.. But overall the situation stinks :(
