It's Monday again -- is everyone geared up for a great week? :)

53F, 9mph cross/headwind from the ESE, overcast:

99.8mpg for 15.0mi (Home to work)

The tank is down to 102.2mpg over 17.5mi

I'm back from vacation.

Sean, great work on that tank, despite not being up to your previous standards.

76.9 mpg / 13.3 miles this morning, with school drop off. I tried another variation that didn't work too well and it added miles. That one's out.

The tank is down a little more, to 83.1 / 382 miles.

A slightly bad commute to work, but had to take a detour which screwed it up a little.

62.8 MPG / 12.3 Miles home to work

no reports from me this week, or until I get my SG back from repair. Support from SG folks said it would all be taken care of and free.:Banane18:

You gonna develop a 6th sense that may complement numerical feed back from your SGII :cool:

Wow... boy was traffic ugly this afternoon!!!

57F, 12-18mph cross/tailwind from the ESE, overcast with wet roads:

Trip | mpg (soc) | gpCm | Miles | Time | F | Wind | Notes
Work (S) | 56.4 | 1.77 | 20.6 | 07.34 | 48 | 1-4NNW | 75% lgb
Home (N) | 60.8 (4) | 1.64 | 20.8 | 07.58 | 64 | ~11NNW | Hit a key red light

Noticeably more windy on my way home with a noticeable effect on coast/glide.

The light on my commute home is one I normally hit. You approach at 45mph and shortly after the speed drops to 35mph at the top of a long, glide-able downhill (0.9mi) to a light before a bridge, and another 0.1 mile to the next light before the road starts a slow rise. If you can hit the light at the top of the hill it's beautiful. Problem is:
- It's sensor-driven and there's more cross-traffic.
- The road curves before the light so you can't get that long a read on the light
- At commute-time there are always people behind you so a speculative long glide to the light would be impolite, especially given the road actually rises slightly before the light so you'd start slowing down before it was in sight.

I've had just about enough of being bullied by weather and traffic. :p

I fought back today. ;)

Good news, bad news.

62.8 mpg / 2.4 mi - work to pharmacy. Child 1 is sick. :( I found a better route to the pharmacy. :)
89.9 / 12.0 - pharma to home. Nice. :)
92.3 / 10.6 - home to work, no stop at school. :) mpg, :( child

The tank is up to 83.3 / 407 miles and about 7/8 on the gauge.

not filled-up yet, but longest tank is now 1829.9km (1137.0mi) from previous at 1825.3km (1134.4mi) :cool:
I will fill-up tomorrow, but when is always unknown. The records and symbolic marks in front of me are :

1858.4km = 1155.0mi - vekke's (EM.com (http://ecomodder.com/forum/em-fuel-log.php?vehicleid=2344))
1889.9km = 1174.6mi - wayne's (CMPG.com (http://www.cleanmpg.com/index.php?page=garage&displayunits=MPG%28US%29&viewcar=639))
1900.0km = 1180.9mi
1930.8km = 1200.0mi
2000.0km = 1243.0mi
2521.9km = 1567.4mi - sean's

I will attempt the 1st two. I may try the 3rd one but not the 4th.
I will attempt the double-kilo-kilometer tank next spring, sadly I'm certain I would have been able to do it this summer if I had the kill switch one or two months sooner :(
For the last one I'll need much more aeromods, weight reduction and miracles... (dear Santa Claus... )

Denis.

Ooooh! Is vekke's Seat a tdi? It's listed as a 1.9 engine, and wikipedia shows only a tdi in that displacement. Gas 1.8 and 2.0.

If it's a gasser, I'll have to push my record farther in the future. ;)

Andrew, hope your vacation was great and your child will recover quickly.

Both my son and I have a cold. We are competing since Friday to know who have the worst mood...

Vekke's Seat is a TDI : his modding thread (http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthread.php/seat-cordoba-vario-1-9-tdi-6896.html). He modded his car more than I did and achieves better results than mine despite driving faster thanks to his SGII. He failed to achieve a 2000km (1243.0mi) tank but he should be able to do so as his EPA rating is 47. Despite mine is only 35 I hope I'll be the first to achieve one...

Andrew, only Wayne's record is important to your eyes ;)

Weather changed for the better, finally it wasn't raining yesterday nor today.
It was a bit cold in the morning though, ~5C (41F) (with thick fog in the valley next to town), I had to use my heated gloves (2 amps power draw).
Next morning will probably be similar, so today I brought extra lining for my pants.
I'm happy for the change, I can much more easily handle a cold morning than rain. I hope it won't freeze for a while, last year I could ride until early December - then it was mostly cold and snowy until mid March... it's quite an unusual year in Hungary, we get much more snow and rain than normal.

Anyway, I made a quick turn into town on the top of my normal commute to buy a new phone for shiNIN - her phone just got lost, we don't have the faintest idea where :confused:
Well, extra 10km in city driving mode for yesterday (with an extra stop). At least we did not have to pay for parking the bikes :)

And I forgot to mention last week the new fill for Ciliegia. She mostly got 1-up rides, in the half of the tank I was driving, and we could almost get an 500km tank :) Average is 2.8l/100km (83.9mpgUS). I'll refuel Teresa in the weekend (on our next Eastern Hungary trip), which means more 2-up freeway ride (those alternate routes are certainly not fun after night shifts).

I got my scooter/motorcycle on the road today. Here is a link to it: http://www.saferwholesale.com/300cc-Tiger-Trike-p/300cc%20tiger%20trike.htm I got the black one. It should be interesting to see what this thing can do. It has an auto-trans but it will actually freewheel when you let off the throttle. I'm not too sure about FAS'ing it though as the starter will not engage unless one of the brakes is activated. I'm assuming that it just needs to turn on the brake light so there may be some wiggle room with the adjustments. It also has 14" car type radials on the back so I may have to see if a certain Bridgestone tire may fit.;)

Sean, you don't have a diesel, so no soot sealing off your engine...

I don't remember if your last recall permitted to resolve the problem. Hope your batteries aren't deteriorating too much.

Hi, Denis -- I might need to get the EGR valve cleaned.

The battery is fine though I still don't get full assist when I ask for it. I might go through another forced recal to try to resolve that this tank.

Sorry to hear about the power loss Sean,especially as there is not much to play with there you must really notice any issue it may have being such a sensitive machine. Well I didn't do the greatest today but it was what I could do.... Wife locked her and the kids out of the house her Vue keys also..... I had to save the day and pick her up after work as she got a ride from her dad. Those of you that have day care they charge extra if you are late so I set my cruise at 68 and motored home.... I was bumbed to get that call from her as it was warm and I know I had a good 45-49 avg waiting to be squeezed out of the spicy orange unnamed car of mine. DANG. settled with a lame 39.9 trip home saved the day and all is good but my tank avg slightly dropped.:p

Right Lane Cruiser

Thanks, Gas-x... it may have just been some hidden regen as the car responded normally this morning. :)

I wish I had reset the FCD before I left to come home so I wouldn't have to do all the math to figure out how good the trip home was.:p Also, I lost the first mark on the scooter today somewhere around the 35-40 mile mark. I guess I should set up a mileage log to keep track of the tanks.

Topped off the scooter today. I had 44.7 miles on this tank and the gauge was blinking between 1/2 & 3/4 and, I will be taking my daughter to her voice lessons and the trip will be nearly as far as the amount of miles already on the tank. Since it is an unfamiliar vehicle to me, I wanted to make sure I had plenty of fuel for the trip. I used .892 gallons which comes to 50.1 mpg. Now it's time to start getting more serious about trying to wring some efficiency out of this beast.:p

Well, I tried it. It actually came surprisingly close to what I figured I'd make going home in this mess of rain, wind, and traffic on the usual route. The stops on that one are hard enough to counteract with long glides in dry weather -- pushing water out of the way makes it really difficult. I probably wouldn't have done much better than about 92mpg or so.

I'll have to try the route again sometime when it is dry and less windy to see what I might be able to do with it.

Well Drive in was not bad considering all my morning commutes are low.... I got 42.2 over 72.5 mi. Drive home was a different story and an ugly one at that. I avg 50 mph over 73 mi at a terrible 36.1mpg. I would like to say even though it is not a great number I felt like I won the gold medal at the olympics to come out of that long drive above 35...so much water on the roads. The first 16 mi of my commute I had a good avg going of 43.6 that fell apart as I waited in stop and go to merge onto 35w. Bad deal but I hope better things are to come tomorrow. 09-24-2010, 02:05 PM
Yes, I kept it pressed in -- I didn't see any need to add extra drag to the system while in "generator" mode.

It took less than 2min, though I parked it with 18 bars so there wasn't much to actually fill up. It showed the standard 4 bars of regen while doing this.

I calculate I used 0.031g doing that. :(

I won't know if this changed the assist behavior any until I go driving again. Sunday, perhaps?

OK. I was wondering if it had to be pressed for the procedure to work. I guess as long as you didn't have to do that too often there wouldn't be any worry about throw-out bearing wear. Hopefully that did the trick for you.

I didn't find anything stating that the clutch must be pressed.

Took the Insight for a drive to run an errand. 104.5 mpg for 8.1 miles there and 113.7 for 8.2 miles back home. Not sure if there will be more driving or not.

Unfortunately it seems that forced recal I went through did me absolutely no good at all. The car behaves exactly the same with limited assist. :p
