Hi All:

I received this from Jesse who drives a big rig for a living as well.

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/2/Trucks_Tailgating.jpg

This little convoy of 6-trucks was traveling WB on I-90 just before I-84 at approximately 70 mph (5 mph over the PSL). The entire grouping was within about ¼ of a second of one another. Up in front was a car doing 70 in the right hand lane.

Jesse called in to some of the trucks and asked that they back off the car up fronts @$$. Many of them said to “F*** O**”. The lead guy was running about 15’ behind the car and said, “He was trying to get him to move out of the way?” Jesse said the guy is already 5 mph over and you should pass. The lead guy told Jesse to screw himself…

We need rev limiters, pay by the hour and not by the mile and enforcement of the laws already in place as this was a 6 truck and multiple car pileup just waiting to happen.

If I were in that car it wouldn't take long for them to decide to pass or that whole convoy would be soon traveling at a brisk 45 MPH or less.

If I was in the car I'd change lanes left and maintain speed until they get by.

Same here. Tailgating me has the opposite of the intended effect of making me speed up.:p

Indeed. Unless I have a choice, the same happens with me.

If one of those cro-magnons insist on tailgating, I actually slow down even further... and usually from that point on I let the cameras do the work - especially if anything happens afterwards. Most of the time the most aggressive just honk and erect their middle finger only to move on to their next offense: hopefully well ahead and away from me. ;)

Cheers;

I tend to slowly slow down a little bit when I feel disrespected.

I never seem to have this problem in OKC, everyone (including the big rigs) have no problems passing me ASAP and leaving me in the dust. When it does happen, I slowly slow down until they move.

And they accuse hypermilers of drafting...

Hi All:

Here is what I was dealing with in the Accord on my way back from the Fiat 500 Preview in downtown Chicago last Thursday…

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/2/Accord_-_2-seconds_back.jpg
50 mph PSL, just beginning of Rush and easily over 2-seconds back on Route 41 Northbound nearing North Chicago.

Tailgater jack @$$ climbing into my trunk for well over 2-miles

Both pics were snapped within 20 seconds of one another…

Was there someplace up ahead to go other than up somebody’s @$$? This happens in the Chicago, LA, NY, Miami, Dallas, Houston, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle… area(s) all the time.

Fortunately the Accord provided 45.5 mpg there and back if that is any consolation in lieu of "Mr. Jerk of Day" in the white truck behind. I really want to know how he was going to get anywhere any sooner while jeopardizing my life.

If only I would have had the camera a little lower to catch the speedo up front and a little higher before snapping blindly to the rear to catch his plate.
