View Full Version : 500 Hundred Renamed Taurus Chuck 02-06-2007, 10:46 AM The Ford Taurus is back - as the Ford 500. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17003763/ CoasterToasterXB 02-06-2007, 01:09 PM I'm waiting for them rename the F150 to the Model T. I think the would drum up more interest. brick 02-06-2007, 01:51 PM I thought the Taurus was supposed to be mid-size like the Fuzion and the 500 was supposed to be kinda big like the Crown Vic? If so, why does this even make sense? Can we declare Ford to be a Rock Bottom yet? TonyPSchaefer 02-07-2007, 02:01 PM In the middle of the article is a link to another story: "Last Ford Taurus rolls off assembly line (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15444807/)" Funny. psyshack 02-07-2007, 09:17 PM I thought the Taurus was supposed to be mid-size like the Fuzion and the 500 was supposed to be kinda big like the Crown Vic? If so, why does this even make sense? Can we declare Ford to be a Rock Bottom yet? Brick you are right. American auto makers cant build a car but once in a blue moon that can stand on its own. so every once in a while they have to drag a old name out to bolster sales on a new model. It would have been tooooo darn simple to call the 500 a Vic and the Fusion a Tarus. The sad thing is stupid Americans will buy into the marketing idiots ploy. Can you imagine Honda droping the Accord name plate for ,,, say Plexar. When it is or would be in fact the next gen Accord. And to top it off the Fusion is a much better car than the never up dataed T ever was. But they cant just say " we present you the next gen Tarus " I had a nightmare one night. I dreamed I went and purchased a Tarus. I woke up screaming. Bought a loaded one and was in auto hell. I woke up screaming. And to top it off it wasnt even a SHO!!! or a Maruder. I told the wife if I EVER thought about buying a Tarus take a skillet to me in my sleep! And if you look at a fusion or 500 esp. the fusion. This is the car ford spent 10 years trying to copy Accord and Camry. And they still cant get the engine right. It handels good. Every bit as good as a Accord v6 6mt. But the v6 is old school and the I4 is a poor knock off. And whats up with fords bold moves semi art deco dash? I have to admit I like it in the f-150,,, think its fine. But now its going into there whole product line. That would be like Honda putting a Civic style dash in all there cars and suv/ truck like things. Aint going to happen. Ford really needs to get a grip and stop looking to there idiot marketing dept. psy Whoops,,, then there GM... Short story The owner of the company has a 06 Tahoe. It shot its tranny Monday. Dead hunk of junk. so his dealer gives him a loaner 07 Hoe. With in a hour its fried the electrical system. Ka-put,,, its dead... a brand new Hoe dead with smoke coming from places in a truck Ive never seen. Fried the whole wiring harness. Then a buddy of mines 04 Chvy truck smokes its tranny Tuesday. Poof it junk. And they want me to belive in Volt or Dual mode. Naw I dont think so. They cant even make there 1950's tech work muchless blaze new frontier.... rant over.... well almost.... DEATH TO THE BIG THREE!!!!!! psy xcel 02-08-2007, 09:04 AM Hi All: ___Mullaly is trying to make his mark and at the Chicago Autoshow – Ford Presentation yesterday, Ford renamed not just the 500 to Taurus but 3 vehicles! The Mercury Montego is now the Sable and the Freestyle is the Taurus-X. Rich and I looked at each other before the unveiling of the Taurus X and said I bet it’s the slow selling Freestyle. The partition slid away and there is the Freestyle with Taurus X badging. It is almost sad to see Ford have to play these games and worse yet; I have to feel somewhat embarrassed for the Ford upper management that has to present this stuff in front of a crowd of journalists. I felt the same way when Mullaly and Fields were doing the same in Detroit with their goofy and way out there concepts. The comments we were hearing on the show floor was WTF is Ford doing??? I wish the best for Ford but the gimmickry sounds pretty lame from my perspective. I guess they had to do something? At least the 3.0 has finally been buried and the new 3.5 w/ the new 6-speed has been put in its place. ___Good Luck ___Wayne Chuck 02-08-2007, 09:12 AM Mullaly really turned around Boeing getting the 777 into the market. I hope he still has the same skills to do the same at Ford, but it's a different situation. Chuck 02-08-2007, 04:06 PM It was Mullaly's idea MSNBC story (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17033668/) Pravus Prime 02-12-2007, 04:52 PM Problem is sticking Nordstroms name on K-mart crap still leaves you with K-mart crap. The problem with the Freestyle has been threefold, it seems. 1. No one knows it exists. 2. It's too **** expensive (As I've said, 2 Escapes + $$, an Explorer + $ equals the price on a Freestyle; a Freestyle has no business being more expensive than an Explorer.) 3. It does nothing to stand out with a good reason to buy it. So, they address problem one, by renaming it Taurus X. Good, one problem down. But, then they exacerbate problem 2 by putting a larger engine in it and increasing the price. Bad, bad move. And they don't do anything about probem 3, unless you count adding Sync to it something worth noting. They also do something similar with the Taurus and the Sable, only not quite so much. A bad, bad move IMHO. vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
