My wife gave me a surprise birthday party for turning 35! Yea me:) Anyway her best friend knows that I take MPG seriously. She gave me " But is still in the mail" The Vehicle Fuel Efficiency Booster. I repeat this was given to me. This device plugs into a vehicle's DC outlet and stabilizes the electrical current. They promise a 18% increase. I wanted to laugh at my wife's friend, because I know it wont work! I will try it out and report back if anything changes:rolleyes: Hopefully it doesn't cause a short somewhere:eek: She meant well.

Take it apart and tell us what's inside. If it's a radioisotope thermoelectric generator, it might actually help improve FE.

Congratulations on the birthday, CT!

Gifts like that are always difficult to... receive properly. Yes, she meant well and at least she made an effort to identify with your quest!

$75 for that? thats half the price of a scanguage keep in your glovebox for 2 weeks then tell them it didn't work and to return it.

DC current stabilizer that plugs in to the cigarrette lighter? That'll be a ten cent capacitor that smooths out some of the voltage ripple your alternator creates. I'll bet most of your car's logic and sensors already run on 5V, so they won't really notice the difference.

Seriously, though, since you have it, please give it a serious test and report back to us. It will be a true scientific test, with the high possibility of a non-result.

Once I get it I will put it through its paces.

UPDATE: I just got it today. There is not much to it. I plug it in and it works" it lights up". I will report if I find anything of use.

I now have the device plugged in! My wife asked " How do you know its working?" I replied, " I don't !"
Anyway I had to make several errands today. I know the routes well and what MPG I normally get. I usually average 40-43MPG. Today on both segments I got in the 45's. I know this dosent mean anything. I know theres tons of variables! We will just have to see how all this works out. i will keep u posted:woot:

I wonder if I could get people to pay me $75 to glue a block of wood beneath the gas pedal to prevent jackrabbit starts. I imagine it would boost FE a respectable amount.

Even if this doesn't work (as we all expect it will not), at least your wife's friend made an effort. If nothing else, in researching a gift for you, maybe she stumbled upon a small nugget of fuel efficiency that she will unconsciously incorporate into her driving? My wife's friends all think that I am nuts and they avoid the subject with me, so I envy you.

BTW, congratulations on making it to 35! 200 years ago, you would be a very old man now and I would be long gone and buried ;)

Hi Coaster:

Congrats on 35!

Regarding the gadget, I can tape a taped up shoe box under most people's hood and they would see an 18% increase in FE. It will have nothing to do with the shoebox of course but people's habits change when they know something is helping them improve their FE :D
