Newly refreshed 2008 Ford Escape Hybrid offers more for less.

DEARBORN, Mich. - The new 2008 Ford Escape is entering the marketplace with a bold new design, a quieter ride and a host of new features and options– with sticker prices that average $1,100 less than 2007 Escape models. The 2008 Escape also benefits from substantially improved residual values.

With more than 1 million units sold, Escape has been the best-selling small sport-utility vehicle in North America since its launch in September 2000. T he new 2008 Ford Escape will arrive in showrooms in the first quarter of 2007, building on the combination that has made it a continued success – traditional SUV capability and crossover construction. New inside and out, the 2008 Escape features a comprehensive suite of standard safety features, more upscale interior appointments and notably improved levels of comfort and quietness.

The manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) for the 2008 Ford Escape starts at $19,245 for the Escape XLS I-4 manual, including $665 destination and delivery. The 2008 Escape XLT V-6 – the model that’s expected to account for half of all Escape sales – will be priced a $22,545. The 2008 Escape Hybrid will begin at $25,740.

“This is the same ‘clear pricing’ strategy we followed with the Fusion, Expedition and Edge: bold design, more features, more standard safety equipment, and lower sticker prices,” said Cisco Codina, Ford group vice president, North America Marketing, Sales, and Service, during the reveal of the new Escape at the Los Angeles Auto Show late last year. “The payoff is more appeal, stronger resale values, and more satisfied customers. It’s the Way Forward plan in action.”

The 2008 Ford Escape delivers as much as an 11-point improvement in 36-month residual value over the 2007 model and now outperforms several key competitors. Greater value and standard safety features help make the 2008 Ford Escape even more appealing to first-time car buyers. Ford statistics show that 20 percent of Escape buyers are first-time car buyers.
2008 Ford Escape is new inside and out with more standard safety features, including Safety Canopy™ side curtain air bags. AdvanceTrac® with RSC® – Ford Motor Company’s exclusive roll-stability control system – is now standard on gas models.

Across the range, 2008 Escape base MSRPs will average $1,100 less than 2007 models, despite bold new design, more standard features and improved refinement and flexibility.

Prices for the 2008 Ford Escape start at $19,245 (including $665 destination and delivery charges). 2008 Escape Hybrid begins at $25,740.

Improved 36-month residual values are up to 11 points better than previous models and significantly ahead of major competitors.

Employees at Ford’s Kansas City Assembly Plant today celebrated the launch of the all-new 2008 Ford Escape. Sales begin in the first quarter of 2007.

It looks like a nice set of improvements. A higher resale value can only improve things for Ford.

Still don't like it. I think the design is fugly, especially after being in it.

And the lack of improvements to the FEH drivetrain makes me wonder what's really going on over there...

Hi Rich:

___With the ability to purchase an 07 FEH with the safety package (airbags all around) for ~ $20K after rebates and Tax credit, the 07 screams bargain to me. The 08 with its $1,175 drop in price (although no $3,000 in rebates yet) will probably be a $20K vehicle at this time next year.

___Here are my thoughts … If the 08 FEH is available for ~ $20K next year (add a few grand for accessories of your choice) and if Hymotion can equip the FEH with a 12 + kWh Li-Ion PHEV-30 pack for maybe $5K in 3 years, I see a great PHEV solution today instead of waiting for GM or anyone else to come out with something later. I still do not know how or if Hymotion hacked the CAN bus to control ICE off without a switch below 40 mph but I have to assume they did something? Ford screwed up the ICE-On algorithms over ICE-Off ones the Prius II is equipped with for whatever reason(s) :(

___I am not defending the 08 FEH’s appearance as I do not think it is that bad. The lack of improvement in the hybrid drivetrain however bothers me a great deal and I can only hope its PHEV upgrade capability has been improved with the ICE-ON/Off transition SW change?

___Good Luck
