NEW RECORD!

:woot::woot::flag::flag:

623.0 miles
15.137 gallons

for an astounding 41.157 MPG!!

I tested out whether or not I did, in fact, have DFCO on this tank. I do. So I've gone from N, ICE On gliding on the MASSIVE downhills (with a fair amount of braking) to DFCO. I'll say it works.

I normally expect to see my low fuel light at ~545 miles on the tank. I knew I was in for a treat when I fired up to come home and saw no light at 552! Turns out, it didn't come on until 583, I believe.

It's not a record distance, I've done 629.7 miles. However, that was after driving with the low fuel light on for about 85 miles. This time, I only drove about 23 miles with it lit.

Another note to my excitement: One of my goals with this car was to get a tank at or above 40 MPG. This tank is the FIRST OFFICIAL TANK over 40 MPG!

Nice work, Nevyn. Since I'm down to either the Elantra or the Matrix for my next car, it's nice to see what the Elantra is capable of. (I'm in no hurry to buy ... and non-salvage MT examples of both candidates are fairly scarce, so I'm going to take my time. I'm not going to try to choose between the two at this point since both seem decent cars, I'll wait until I find a good deal on EITHER one and then make the leap). Boy, a tank over 40mpg. It's been a long time since I've had a car I could do that in.

I see you averaged 38.2mpg on the last FE challenge. Not bad for a car rated the same 21/29 as my Jetta.

And with an automatic, and I thought I didn't have DFCO, and I can't do EOC (Engine Off Coasting)...

:) I test drove an Elantra GT sedan w/ 5MT one day in late April. Warm-up hit, city driving, still pulled 46 MPG over 7 miles. :D

Nevyn's next goal: 300 mpg

No, not quite. Next goal is to get a running overall average of 40 MPG.

10,000 miles at 37.6 mpg.

41.157 mpg for the next 23,000 miles would do it. or...
42 mpg for 14,000 miles. or...
43 mpg for 9,200 miles. or...
45 mpg for 5,800 miles.

It's within reach, for sure. Just takes a little time. Of course, you're burning through the miles a lot faster now.

Andrew,

I noticed that you are using 2 DIFFERENT 1996 Honda Civic DX Sedans (from your signature), is that correct?

1st car (overall) EPA - 33/38
2nd car (All FE's) EPA - 28/35

The lifetime log is using the old epa rating. The competition car is using the new revised 2008 epa rating. The car was 33/38 when it was built, but they revised it down to 28/35 along with all the other cars in 2008.

Yours was originally rated 35/43. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorCompareSideBySidePopUp.jsp?column=1&id=14874

5,800 miles @ 45 MPG? That's only 2 months. :D
