View Full Version : Alternative-Energy Spending Fizzles Out rhwinger 01-04-2007, 05:02 AM Interesting article from MIT Technology Review: http://www.technologyreview.com/Energy/18003/ xcel 01-04-2007, 05:37 AM Hi Bob: ___Thanks for the link. I was reading a number of the Technology Review articles these past few nights and found the China’s Coal Future Part I an interesting read as well. ___With the lack of funding for renewables and/or alternatives, we are headed in one direction and that direction is the wrong one for sure :( ___Good Luck ___Wayne rhwinger 01-04-2007, 06:16 AM This kind of stuff is so vexing. I'm just venting, with no facts to back up my words, but I'm frustrated just the same. My brother has been making biodiesel in his garage for years, but has been finding it difficult to continue because of some kind of problem in obtaining an ingredient need for making it. He now drives from Manassas, VA to Manhiem, PA (combining family visits to Harrisburg, PA) to get the stuff he needs. Rides a bike to work when he can. Really goes out of his way to reduce imported oil. The other article on the new battery company and Chevron is just what I'm talking about. All I can do is drive my HCH as best I can, but would like to see more changes from our leadership. Technology Review has a wide range of "future news" which I enjoy reading. xcel 01-04-2007, 12:04 PM Hi Bob: ___Thanks for passing along your brother’s story. To make Bio-diesel, I believe you need Lye, Methanol, and filtered cooking grease + a way to heat it up in a small reaction chamber (container) w/ the ability to drain off the Bio on top. I know there are many Internet sites dedicated to this and I did not know there was a shortage of a particular agent needed to separate the Bio-D and the glycerin? I would be interested in hearing more about it however. ___The News item about Cobasys is extremely disturbing and I have no idea how Cobasys got their hands into A123 Systems pockets? I will leave my personal thoughts in that thread … ___Good Luck ___Wayne vBulletin® v3.6.7, Copyright ©2000-2012, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
