After the first 3 tanks came in at a lackluster 53.1 mpg, i decided to research a bit and saw a post on using the SAHM on the HCH2. I figured it might work on my Insight2 so i gave it a try. Now the real time display seems to be a bit optomistic by maybe 4 mpg so take this with a grain of salt, but....... http://i677.photobucket.com/albums/vv131/senecadoubleU/bike/100_0821.jpg

What speeds were you trying to use SAHM at?

The terrain around here is low rolling hills, some long coast opportunities. I try to use it whenever i git the chance and when i see i've got a decent soc. Probably get a good coast of 15 to 30 seconds, 5 times during 24 mile commute. Plus a bunch of shorter times. Starting speed is usually 48 to 52, down to 25 if i hit the lights right. I'm not hurting my car, am I?

No your not hurting your car. I thought this to ,but msantos set my mind at ease. Is it his thread you read? HCH2 hybrid area. I've got as high as 71.3 mpg over a 100 mile run with my HCH2. I need a SG however. I sure it would help. The only problem is I have too many things to watch now! H

Post url i got that from was http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14295 .... Thanx for that, its a killer tecnique that my Insight can git into at almost any speed and at any charge other then forced charge mode. I guess a SG would be helpful, but I can usually keep it in with just the info i git off the display and some gentle foot work.:flag:

On closer reading of that post, I'm not sure if i got the terminology correct. Basically, i'm just putting the car in fuel lockup and holding ev mode as long as possible. I've never tried it at 60 mph since.....umm...i never go that fast. Looks like true sahm is a bit more compicated so i guess i should stop calling it that. I've only had this car a month and and there is alot of info dumped on me real fast, both ifcd and in these forums, and I git a bit exited when i start seeing mileage thats 3x what i was getting with my old 99 Lumina. :woot: :Banane37:

Nothing wrong with getting excited!
Prolonging glides is a good thing but try to use as little electric assist as possible. Ultimately, all of the energy comes from gasoline and the conversion losses nearly always outweigh simply maintaining momentum. The benefit you can get is through using the glide mode to get your engine to turn off whenever you want it to.

I've had my HCH2 for 3 years and I'm still learning and practicing. These cars are a blast . So interesting to drive and learn to understand. You are learning fast, so keep it up. You may want to study Tarabell,s thread as well. Its on the HCH2 threads as well. H
Hi Sidfreak:
You are getting it alright and I hope you get many more segments just like it ;)
Congrats on your first 60 mpg breakthrough!
Good Luck
