Replied to another post on the forum, member made a comment to do a intro so here i am. Guess this board is small enough most people know each other (i like that!).

As you guessed by my name i am the resident crazy asian. Real name is Pat, from sunny retirement central Florida.

My daily commute used to consist of a 110mi round trip ride. Daily beater is a 1984 Mercedes Benz 300SD running on WVO. Lots of mods. Currently ave 39mpg on WVO.

Really big into AE and green fuels. Been trying hard to get my other vehicles to be more fuel efficent.

Run a 3.2kw solar array and a listeroid burning wvo for supplemental power/water heating. Net metering keeps my electric bill very low...

Welcome. You have an interesting program. Lots of info here on reducing fuel consumption.

Welcome- what is a Listeroid??
Charlie

PS 39MPG is very very good for a relatively ancient Diese in a fairly heavy-(3800 lbs maybe??).Is it a straight diesel or a turbo diesel?I've noticed that older plain non turboed diesels do very well.(even the GM crummy 6.2 liter diesel in a 5500 lb Suburban was rated at 22 mpg in 1988-still the best hy mpg for that vehicle)
The GM -a not so great motor initially-did well with a huge vehicle-buddies got 25 mpg in Suburbans on long hy trips. No Turbo
The Little VW pickup got an honest 45 mpg hy.No turbo
The Isuzu 60 hp diesel in the pickup got 40+ mpg hy.No turbo

Hi Pat. Do you go to restaurants and collect the waste oil yourself, or is there an intermediary involved?

The complex where my repair shop is located has a chinese restaurant in it. I get it from them and 2 other places (one being Japanese and the oil is much higher in quality).

A listeroid is a Indian built clone of a British design/built diesel engine. Tough as nails and its low speed. She sounds like a grandfather clock ticking away when she runs.

The old 300SD sports a gas 2.42 rear with a 5 speed manual swapped in. Still runs the stock pizza cutter tires. Its a turbo diesel, modified turbo from a Liberty diesel.

Gm 6.2/6.5 are a royal pain in my rear. Replaced many a cracked head in them. When i was looking for a diesel dually years ago i picked up a 91 F350 with a 7.3 na/5 speed. 22 mpg was easy to achieve with that old tank and no cracked heads like the gm counterpart.

Hi IACA:

___Congrats on the WVO powered MB! Not only are you reusing what used to be mess, your CO2 is probably close to zip!

___You are filtering your own then and what do you pay all-in?

___And Welcome to CleanMPG :)

A friend of mine is doing the same thing, collecting from 6-7 restaurants in his area. He checked a lot of restaurants and found wide differences in oil quality. He says filtering waste oil from the really bad ones is too much work, so he chose the best ones for his oil pickups.

He says the quality of a restaurant's waste oil is a good way to decide whether you would want to eat there.
