SO in the owner's manual for the Acura TSX (automatic), it says the car can be towed for up to 50 miles, at up to 35mph, after running the engine in 'D' for 5 seconds. So in an urban scenario, i'd be fairly confident that the car can coast with the engine off.
That said, does anyone with this car (or a similar acura/honda with the same speed/distance rating) have experience coasting at highway speeds? I really wouldn't want to risk any damage to a $30000 car.

My Odyssey has the same. I neutral coast on the highway, but with the engine on. In town, I do shut it off to coast, and sometimes push the 35 mph limit. It's only a few seconds while I'm slowing down.
Xcel should be able to give you more, though, with 100,000+ miles in his Accord.
Hi Degnaw:
___Similar tranny and you can do basically whatever you want within reason. I would not be FAS'ing at 80 + as I like to reengage below 50 but the Honda I4's with the 5-speed AT have proven themselves over tens and hundreds of thousands of miles with real world results and never a problem that I have heard of. The V6's on the other hand...

Though we have different motors and transmissions, if there's a downhill I'll take full advantage of the FAS capability. The restrictions on both our cars are the same and I've not had a problem over the last 20k miles since I started hypermiling. I've had the engine off over 3 miles and over 50mph without a problem. If the hill is too steep I'll turn the car back on and use engine braking, still using 0 fuel.
