Yesterday I was sooo sick with head cold/sinus infection, rested all day until 2pm, decided to go out and DO something in order to get better. To continue my search on various hypermile-able cars I decided to go to Toyota store yesterday.
Talked my objectives with salesperson (detailing out that I want to try and select a car that we want BEFORE we go into negotiation phase on OTHER date) and explained that we are looking for at least 35+ mph cars.
He tried to introduce us (me and my wife) to Toyota Camry Hybrid -- ugh too big for us, Not on my list of cars that we wanted anyway, so we asked for smaller one, so he then introduced me to a silver Toyota Prius 2008 (posted price on car was 19,000) a "certified used car."
The salesman was very nice, generous and allowed me to take the control in the whole process, rode out of sales lot and allowed me to drive that Prius car. Driving that car is a WHOLE different experience!!! It seems to hypermile on its own, turning off @ traffic stop, @ slow down and @ downhills. I P&G that car and was able to keep MPG up, averaging approx 72 MPG (didn't have enough time to do a long test, (wishful thinking)). I went up to 45 mph then used cruise control to see how MPG did, it was averaging at 48 mpg then stopped the cruise control, it went up to approx 99.9 mph on slight decline.
Boy, I was stoked, wanting THAT car!! I'm not going to rush to select Toyota Prius as our choice, as I look forward in trying other hyper-able cars out first!
After the experience on Toyota Prius, I am now more keen in my current Toyota Camry 1993, knowing where to push buttons, hoping to push up to 32 MPG or beyond.
O, pinch me, I'm dreaming!
