Tonight I walk out with a few of my employees at closing time and see one of them get into a 2005 Toyota Corolla. I said is this your new car and she said yes we got rid of the Explorer. The Explorer was a 1996 or 1997 and the used Corolla they picked up only has 14K miles on it. Poof instant 100% increase in fuel mileage. :) Talking about the $30-$35 a month I'm spending on gas is starting to hit home with a few people around me. Sooner or later they all come around when it comes time to replace their vehicles.

So now at work we have

2 Hyundai Elantra's, came from a Chrysler Mini Van and a Nissan Altima
1 Acura TSX, came from a Grand Prix
2 Corolla's, came from an Explorer and a Sebring 6 cylinder
1 Focus came from an Escort
1 Kia Sorento came from an Isuzu Rodeo
1 Kia Sedona came from an Oldsmobile Alero
1 Blazer came from a Grand AM
1 Tundra V8, unknown
1 Monte Carlo came from a Hyundai Elantra. (Bad timing belt, got rid of car due to dealer refusing to pull head to check for internal damage).
1 Prius came from Volvo Turbo

Those Blazer and Tundra owners are going to be the tough ones to convert to something more economical.

I talked to the husband who bought the 2005 Corolla yesterday. New info, it has 11K miles not 14K as I was told by the wife. It was traded in by an elderly couple who were scared to death to own a Toyota due to all the media hype. He picked it up for $8,800, they had it for $10,800 and gave him $2,000 for the Explorer.

If I'd known that it was for sale at that price I would have traded in my 960 for it.

You can't win 'em all! That Corolla was a steal for sure, though!

Good on you!

Things at my work are not so positive. The two people I work with the most recently traded from an old V6 MT Silverado to a new Hemi Ram, and from a V6 midsize suv to a Tundra. :( There's also a guy who commutes a hour each way in a 4X4 SuperDuty. At least it's a diesel. Texas is very much "truck country".

For someone who needs a truck, the Tundra is hard to beat for fuel economy.

Read Wayne's review of the new Fords.

Agreed about the Fords. I just wish there was something SMALLER and CHEAPER for those who don't need to tow 8 tons.

You mean like an EV Ranger? :p

I was thinking more like a TDI Ranger, but EV would be nice too.
