View Full Version : Week of April 12th - April 18th, 2010 (Nat Avg $2.87)
Right Lane Cruiser 04-12-2010, 06:18 AM Welcome back to the grind for another fun filled week of high mileage pursuit. :)
43F, 3mph cross/headwind from the S, overcast:
101.9mpg for 22.7mi (Home to work)
The tank is steady at 101.2mpg over 883.2mi with 6 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
I've got rain forecasted for much of the week, but the temp is supposed to also be quite a bit warmer. Here's hoping I can continue building the tank average!
diamondlarry 04-12-2010, 06:56 AM With 44F and winds SE@5-10, I'm at 81.2 mpg for the day.
PaleMelanesian 04-12-2010, 08:23 AM Does that mean the weekend involved no wiring, Larry? :(
81.2 for me this morning at 54 degrees. I lost a bit due to 5 irresponsible dog owners letting the pooches out on the road. Some just stand there looking dumb, some want to 'herd' the car. I am taking care of my dog, so why can't they?!! Oh, right. We're out in "the country" where logic is not necessary.
Tank at 77.5 / 339 miles.
I need 80 mpg to reach 1000 miles.
diamondlarry 04-12-2010, 08:50 AM Does that mean the weekend involved no wiring, Larry? :(
81.2 for me this morning at 54 degrees.
Tank at 77.5 / 339 miles.
I need 80 mpg to reach 1000 miles.
Unfortunately, no.:( I had a wedding to go to Saturday and guests yesterday. Things not looking so good for this weekend either with our annual town maple syrup festival. I may have to just start on it and drive the wife's Saturn till I get it done. I always hesitate to start for fear i can't get done by the time I need to drive it again.
Right Lane Cruiser 04-12-2010, 03:13 PM 66F, 10mph cross/tailwind from the ESE, partly sunny:
119.8mpg for 23.4mi (Work to home)
The tank is now up to 101.7mpg over 906.6mi with 5 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 110.4mpg over 46.2mi
I think I've got my first 1K+ tank of the year coming up. Blue Swayed just ticked over 98K miles, too. :p
diamondlarry 04-12-2010, 03:33 PM We hit a high of 64F and the wind is ESE@ 5-10 with gusts to 25 mph.

Die2self 04-12-2010, 08:21 PM home>school>work
- 21.9 / 13.6 miles (56F SE@6) Pollen EVERYWHERE, we live in a yellow world now:eek:

- 24.0 / 13.2 miles (80F SW@13)

tank shows just over 7/8 with 87.8 miles (~22.6 MPG)
Right Lane Cruiser 04-13-2010, 06:13 AM Well that wasn't any fun at all. :( Heavy rain, plenty of traffic, and forced stops where the traffic lights had no power. :p
46F (43F windchill), 7mph head/crosswind from the E, raining:
88.1mpg for 22.8mi (Home to work)
The tank is back down to 101.2mpg over 929.4mi with 5 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
LinuxGold 04-13-2010, 06:49 AM Drove 1993 Ford Ranger XLS 2WD yesterday and today since my wife want to use my Camry for a while. Ranger is nearly impossible to hypermile, feeling "Thick" and accelerator is HARD to press and to accurately control and hold the speed. When trying nice-on coasting, the tires feel like the molasses are attached, slow down considerably fast and going down on light decline is like going uphills.
That made me realize on how EFFICIENT my Camry is and how much my driving habit has improved since I started hypermiling.
diamondlarry 04-13-2010, 07:31 AM Only 80.3 for the day so far. Wind + cool temps= Prius not happy.:(
PaleMelanesian 04-13-2010, 08:04 AM 59.2 / 2.5 miles - work to dr appt, 5:00 traffic
83.8 / 12.2 mi - dr to home, warmed up and traffic clearing out a bit
---
78.2 / 10.7 this morning. I lost a bit on my Final Approach glide, cut short to wait for the guy weedwacking the parking lot.:p
Tank is steady at 77.5 and now at 363 miles.
I need to bring that up to 80 for the kilotank.
Chalupa102 04-13-2010, 11:33 AM 41F when i left the house this morning and 52F currently and sunny with winds from the WSW @ 6mph

The tank is up to 45.9mpg over 150.6 miles. I still have a bit of driving to do to pick some things up and watch a movie with my sister later on.
Right Lane Cruiser 04-13-2010, 03:12 PM Scott, you're doing great -- keep up the hard work. :)
Andrew, I'm sure you can make it!! :flag:
Way to go, Dan!
Well, I just had to make up for this morning and when I found both no rain and mostly dry roads as I walked out of work I decided to throw the book at it. :p

Day Total: 102.6mpg over 46.2mi
My lifetime ticked up to 90.7mpg, too! :)
lxmike 04-13-2010, 04:51 PM Not bad today. Been trying something lil different when leaving home. used to roll out of my driveway andb gtet up to 20 mph and immidiately fas and roll up the street. well now i get into second and tryn to get it to go into 3rd then i take foot of gas pedal and can cruise up with out touching the pedal and last 100' i then fas cause usualy someone coming that i will have to just about stop for. get about the same results at the segment but i'm think that it helps later on due to warmup.
40.6- 7.2 mile to work. caught both my fav lights once again this morning. Why does a light turn red when there is no cars on cross street??
44.6- 6.3 mile home. daytime temp was 83 for the high today. Might have been 45 if i could have caught a bgreen light coming out of my shopping center loop. Oh well, gotta take what i can get.
tank sitting at 279 mile on sg. fuel % is 38 and dash guage sitting between 1/4 and half, closer to half but not by much.

Right Lane Cruiser 04-14-2010, 06:05 AM Man, that wind really made me work for it this morning!!! :p
54F, 11mph headwind from the SE, partly cloudy:
100.3mpg for 22.7mi (Home to work)
The tank is steady at 101.7mpg over 975.7mi with 4 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
I'll be over 1000mi before the end of the day as I've got Choir practice tonight...
PaleMelanesian 04-14-2010, 07:53 AM 55.4 / 3.0 miles to pick up a prescription
81.2 / 11.8 from there to home
80.9 / 10.6 this morning
Oh the possibilities if I had no errands to run! :p
Tank is steady at 77.5 / 390 miles.
I need to bring that up to 80 for my kilotank.
Chalupa102 04-14-2010, 07:57 AM Normally i take the bicycle on Wednesdays, but right now it needs minor repair. I'm changing out the cassette because the one i have currently is pretty worn out. I also want one with a lower low gear to make climbing the hill to my house a little easier. I'll probably go get that done between classes today. As for weather: 38F and sunny with no wind
- 48.1mpg for 23.5 miles from home to school
The tank is up to 46.7mpg over 274.5 miles.
PaleMelanesian 04-14-2010, 01:42 PM Home for lunch. Sick wife and 2 kids. :( I'll be making another mileage-busting pharmacy run after work - city driving and rush hour.
85.8 / 10.7 there with a tailwind.
92.2 / 10.7 coming back (with a headwind!)
That bumps the tank up to 78.0 / 412 miles now. Getting closer to 80...
Chalupa102 04-14-2010, 03:12 PM Almost perfect conditions made for great f/e. 66F and sunny with winds from the NW @ 7mph

The tank is now up to 46.9mpg over 334.5 miles with 5.9 gallons remaining.

lil cool this am but not bad considering.
43.6- 7.2 mile to work
nobody on the road leaving my street and i could push the coating and fas'ing and thats how i got 43+
it got windy here and of coarse I could see it was gonna be a bheadwind and sure enough al teh way home it pushed me back. had some traffic behind me and tries not to hold them up to much and those 2 combined resulted in under 39 :(
38.6 6.2 mile home.
Andrew, how do you manage to do better with the headwind?? :) Doing some secret aero mods that your keeping from us?? :p
Right Lane Cruiser 04-14-2010, 05:56 PM Everybody is pulling excellent numbers today!
I head a lot of rain to deal with on the way home… not much fun but the tank average doesn't reflect it (yet :o)
65F, 13mph tail/crosswind from the SW, RAIN:
102.2mpg for 23.4mi (Work to home)
The tank is still steady at 101.7mpg over 999.2mi with 3 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 101.2mpg over 46.2mi
Right Lane Cruiser 04-14-2010, 07:25 PM Another one too close for comfort. Doggone headwind! At least the rain dried up.
68F, 9mph headwind from the SSE, mostly cloudy:
100.3mpg for 18.4mi (Home to Church)
The tank is still steady at 101.7mpg over 1017.6mi with 3 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 101.0mpg over 64.7mi
I'm going to have to pull a good run on the way home to maintain the tank average!
Die2self 04-14-2010, 08:43 PM home>school drop off>work
- 23.1 / 13.6 miles (58F SE@6) ;)
work>home
- 23.0 / 13.2 miles (78F S@10) :Banane18:
daily avg - 23.1 / 26.8 miles (last time I had a 23.1 daily avg was 11/12/09 :p))
tank is down to 6/8 with 141.2 miles and MPG is up to 22.7 (Up 0.1)
Right Lane Cruiser 04-14-2010, 10:37 PM 63F, 7mph tailwind from the SSE, overcast:
107.6mpg for 18.3mi (Church to home)
The tank remains at 101.7mpg over 1036.0mi with 2 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Day Total: 102.2mpg over 83.0mi
alvaro84 04-15-2010, 12:46 AM This have been a rainy week so far. Yesterday even some ice was coming down in the village back home, I had to close the visor again because it hit my nose :D Now I'm navigating on the 'ridges' - good that the drier areas are mostly at the middle of my lane. I'm thankful for being much narrower than a car ;)
No average yet, I expect that to the weekend.
Right Lane Cruiser 04-15-2010, 06:11 AM It's been rainy here, too!! :p
61F, 12-23mph cross/headwind from the S, raining!!!
95.8mpg for 22.7mi (Home to work)
The tank is still steady at 101.7mpg over 1058.3mi with 2 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
This weather is really starting to bug me. :(
PaleMelanesian 04-15-2010, 08:09 AM Andrew, how do you manage to do better with the headwind?? :) Doing some secret aero mods that your keeping from us?? :p
I wish! No, it's called elevation change. The headwind trip was the downhill direction. It's only ~50 feet over 10 miles, but it makes a measurable difference.
PaleMelanesian 04-15-2010, 08:14 AM Same routes, nearly the same weather as yesterday.
55.4 / 3.0 miles to pick up a prescription
81.2 / 11.8 from there to home
80.9 / 10.6 this morning
61.5 / 3.1 miles to pick up a prescription, for the other child. Rush hour traffic was slightly better.
82.2 / 11.8 home
80.2 / 10.6 this morning
:p I think most of the variation in my mileage these days comes from the driving conditions. ;)
Tank is steady at 78.0 and 437 miles. Close to 3/4 on the gauge.
Still need 80 mpg average.
Chalupa102 04-15-2010, 12:50 PM Just when i thought i broke my record for the 9.1 mile trip @ 45.6mpg on Tuesday, i killed it today even though i hit more red lights then i did on Tues. 66F and sunny with winds from the NNE @ 8mph
- 51.6mpg for 22.7 miles from home to the gym
- 48.2mpg for 9.1 miles from the gym to school :woot:
- 46.1mpg for 23.4 miles from school to home battling some headwinds
Day total: 48.6mpg
The tank is currently up to 47.2mpg over 389.8 with 4.8 gallons remaining. Planning to take the bicycle tomorrow, so hopefully i don't have to start the car back up till Tuesday next week.
diamondlarry 04-15-2010, 01:38 PM No driving for me today and probably not tomorrow. Appointments and events are requiring that my wife drive herself to work. With the temperature at 79F and a wind SW@ 10-20 with gusts to 30 mph, today would be an awesome time to take a trip heading in a northernly direction.:D
Right Lane Cruiser 04-15-2010, 03:08 PM Well, I dragged that tank average up just a smidge more. I tell you what -- this car loves warmer temps! Even the headwind couldn't keep her from strutting a bit. :D
69F, 19mph cross/headwind from the WSW, sunny:
114.1mpg for 23.4mi (Work to home)
The tank is now up to 101.9mpg over 1082.8mi with 1 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge. Guess I'm filling up tomorrow after work.
Day Total: 104.3mpg over 46.2mi
PaleMelanesian 04-15-2010, 03:26 PM Hey Sean, I just realized this. Your Elantra is now the FSP of the family. :p
Right Lane Cruiser 04-15-2010, 03:37 PM Yep! That makes me very happy indeed! :D
lxmike 04-15-2010, 06:21 PM Uneventfull day today. only thing was the wind. calm in morning till lunchtime then it picks up and starts it's thing. Unfortunately it's thing is a headwind! oh well numbers not too bad considering.
41.6- 6.5 mile to work.
41.6 - 5.9 miles home
Pretty consistent huh? :D
Die2self 04-15-2010, 09:07 PM I know what you mean lxmike
home>drop off at school>work
- 22.7 / 13.6 miles (58F SE@5)
work> home
- 23.7 / 13.1 miles (78F SSW@10 head wind) :Banane18:
daily avg = 23.2 / 26.7 miles
tank is at 11/16 with 167.9 on the ODO (up another 0.1 to 22.8)
psyshack 04-15-2010, 10:40 PM 58 mpg, 135 miles, carpooling, I did all the seat time. No wind for the am. 10 to 20 mph head wind for the drive home. I was at 68 mpg for the morning drive. The wind hammered me for the afternoon drive. The cupped rear tires are not helping any. Got to get them on the front this weekend.
Right Lane Cruiser 04-16-2010, 06:09 AM I don't know what the deal with the wind is but it's hitting me hard, too. :p
47F (40F windchill), 16-27mph tail/cross/wind from the NW, overcast:
103.8mpg for 22.8mi (Home to work)
The tank is steady at 101.9mpg over 1105.0mi with 1 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.
Looks like it is going to shift to the NNW and keep blustering like this all day. :p Hello headwind! :(
PaleMelanesian 04-16-2010, 08:09 AM The wind is finally being kind to me. All winter I have a light morning tailwind and a hard afternoon headwind. When warm weather comes, that reverses.
75.1 mpg / 10.7 mi / 10 mph tailwind - home last night, uphill direction
80.0 mpg / 10.6 / no wind this morning, downhill direction.
The tank is steady at 78 / 459 miles and right at 3/4 on the guess-gauge.
Still need to bring that up to 80 for a kilotank.
PaleMelanesian 04-16-2010, 01:42 PM Lunchtime running around. I did a big loop around this end of town, all right turns.
64.7 / 2.5 mi
41.9 / 0.8 mi
82.5 / 5.9 mi
84.3 / 4.1 mi
Tank is down a tick to 77.9 / 472 miles.
Right Lane Cruiser 04-16-2010, 03:28 PM Stopped off at the gas station, fighting that awful headwind. :p
59F, 16-25mph headwind from the NW, sunny:
101.9mpg for 25.9mi (Work to Costco)
123.3mpg for 2.5mi (Costco to home)
The tank ended up better than I expected (and the FCD showed) at 103.128mpg over 1130.9mi using 10.966g.
That puts me in a good position in the Challenge this quarter, too. ;)
Day Total: 103.6mpg over 51.2mi
lxmike 04-16-2010, 04:56 PM Ok today was an ok day work wise and trire wise. My supervisor said i was moving faster today and i told her i had an incentive to get done and try to make it to firestone to take care of that bad tire. well i did and all is well now.
42.6- 7.2 miles to work.
This is where my tank took a lil hit and will tommorrow going to work till i can get my tires aired back up.
36.6 for 10.2 miles home, then to the tire store and back home again. I'll be stopping at the air pump we have at work tommorrow before leaving. I asked what tehs et tire pressure at and was told 35 and when i got home thats exactly what my tire guage read so i know it's reading good. they'll all be higher this time tommorrow :D
tank sitting at 40.5- 322 miles lil aboove 1/4 showing on dash guage. fuel % is 26.7
Ophbalance 04-16-2010, 05:15 PM Man... someone let loose the crazies this week. For some reason, people have been very aggressive. Must be the weather. I was in the right most lane on a four lane (one way!!!) highway with the cruise set at 61, and that STILL wasn't good enough for the lady behind me with the smashed in front end (I'm thinking that smashed in front should have been a lesson at some point about tailgating). Gave me the 'ol highbeem flash and threw the hands up, but never deigned to go around.
* 88 F with 11 MPH winds --- 66.9 MPG over 47 miles (with A/C! I love this car!). Oy, I40 was a parking lot today, but he Prius just eats that up.
Die2self 04-16-2010, 07:26 PM Some releaf from the pollen and some unexpected MPG:p
This morning
- 23.7 / 13.5 (56F S@7) on the normal route :eyebrow:
After work, dorpped by my Gran's to turn off her HW heater and water to the washer while she is gone for 2 weeks. I also turned off her HVAC to save her some $$ as it is not suppose to be too warm.
- 21.5 / 8.8 miles (55F N@10 with rain, wash the pollen out of the air :woot:
to home with wet roads
- 29.4 / 5.0 miles (55F N@10 with wet road, it had stopped raining) FASing down long hills and milking it up the hills and light through town. I had it up to 31.8 MPG at one point
:Banane18: Oh Yeah!!! *that is the Highest MPG on any segment I have ever had, so far*
Daily avg = 24.0 / 27.3 miles
tank is just under 5/8 with 195.2 miles (MPG up another 0.1 to 22.9)
Right Lane Cruiser 04-16-2010, 08:49 PM Way to go, Jason!!! :woot:
lxmike 04-17-2010, 01:46 PM My day was a mess work wise. one of our cook got into a bad accident and they asked me to come in an d help cover her shift today. so i had to be there at 5 and that mean up at 4 am. On ly good thing is that i saw only one vehicle going in and that helped me push my coasts a lil more. tire pressure was at 40 psi due to tire store trip yesterday. when i left work i aired them back to to my usual XX psi level :p:D.
Numbers are not my usual tripes cause I forgot my lil notebook snd had nothing to write on so they are combined trips
42.1- 2.8 miles from work to supermarket.
43.4- 10.3 miles from home to work and then work to supermarket
42.7- 12.9 mile todays total mile driven.
alvaro84 04-18-2010, 01:18 PM I got my latest average. It's a bit worse than my last one (3.11l = 75.6mpg), therefore I'm not really satisfied. I must admit that the weather is far from perfect, I don't use as agressive techniques as I used last year, and my commute is shorter too - I still would like to break the 3l/100km barrier again.
Another plan: I'd like to beat every other bikers FE-wise at the upcoming "48-hour" castle tour (which is 60 hours long because the title is "one more castle in every 2 hours" and the organizer couldn't decide which 6 castles/forts should he leave out of the tour plan :D) - there my shorter commute won't hurt, it's one ~2000km route and I'll sleep only twice and eat and take pics fast to keep the engine warm :D My greatest opponent will be a Hyosung club mate (I'm regged there too, even though our Hyo - Ciliegia - belongs to my girlfriend) who got a 3.02l/100km (77.9mpg) average last year with his GT250R.
Die2self 04-19-2010, 10:16 PM Way to go, Jason!!! :woot:
Thanks Sean;)
