The work commute was pretty much normal today. Taking my wife to work got me 47.0 and going from there to my job was 55.5. This afternoon, I had a bit more traffic at the start of my trip back to pick up my wife plus a slight headwind/crosswind plus the cold engine and I only managed 51.5 on the way to pick up the wife. From there to home I got 56.6. Warm engine and slight tailwind. Then is when things got interesting. I had to pick my daughter up at school and ended up with 60.1 on the way there and 63.6 on the way back. Then we went to her voice lesson and I got 63.9 on the way there and 60.1 on the way back. SG shows the tank at ~52 after ~ 400 miles mostly due to the unseasonably mild temps.
Now, if I can just get a warm spell to come around every couple of weeks, I may be able to hang on to 50+ till spring.

54 is my magic number. Doesn't matter how or where I drive...city, highway, traffic, no traffic...54mpg. I think I'll mix things up a little tomorrow and revert to the slow, stop-happy back road route. That used to kill the Accord but I think the Prius stands a great chance considering that I could pretty much P&G for the first 10 or 11 miles. Worth a shot!

Now that I am driving without my carpooler I have 4 less stops and I am able to employ a few more mpg techniques. Even though I had to scrape the frost from the car windows this morning, I got a solid 74 mpg going in to work and 75 on the way home. Gotta love that warm air mod!

Hi Eric:

___That is about the best winter commute I think I have ever heard of you achieving? Nice job!

57.1mpg at temps between 34-37F, and it was about two miles shorter to use back roads. Wohoo! Think I'll stick with that route for a while to see what it's good for because the Prius seems to love it. A touch of electric power is great for keeping followers happy about the pace while extending a glide.

Milder temps the last few days have been a blessing with segments back up in the 60 - 65 mpg range. Tried a new route in on secondary roads with less traffic lights but higher posted speed limits (55 vs 45 mph). Cutting out a few stoplights seems to have helped. Light traffic in the AM so I can try to stay at 45 mph in the 55 posted zone. It seems like less traffic in the AM, possibly due to people on Christmas vacation?

I try to park the car during the day where it will get more sun exposure at the rear in an effort to keep the batteries as warm as possible?

45.3 mpg this morning with a head wind and temps in the mid 40's. I had a doh! moment or two this am. I pulled the WAI off last friday due to the unseasonly warm temps. I put it back on when I arrived at the office this morning. Also of note. Yet another doh! monent. I caught myself getting heavy on the throttle the last two mornings. Reason being,,, I wore new heavy duty work tenny's on my feet yesterday. Today I wore my new heavy duty work boots. Not use to the new shoes yet cant help. And to think I have two new pairs of Reebocks to get use to also. :( I drive with my daily footware so ,,, yet another adjustment to make.

It was about 50F this morning and I didn't exactly bring my A game. I pulsed when I should have glided, I didn't pay attention to light sequences, I fought with stealth mode most of my route, traffic flow really put the axe on a couple of good potential glide areas, and I ended up taking an unfamiliar route to get away from all the traffic. I was glad to be at work (Imagine that). About 73.x mpg though.

However, it is supposed to be in the low to mid 60'sF this week. What good temps to finish the month.

I never thought is was possible, but I got passed on the right on a two lane road that has a 25 mph speed limit. I was going 24 mph according to my digital speedo. I really felt like zipping ahead and cussing both of them out (different occasions). I didn't. I really couldn't afford to pulse like that; there was no room to glide. I couldn't possibly let anger come in the way of high fuel economy. ;)

Hi All:

___45.0 in with 25 - 28 degree F temps this morning and 49.1 home in 41 - 45 degree F temps this evening. With my last two tanks 9.7% negative offset and the actuals better by ~ 4% vs. the SG-II, this tank has a very good start.

___Good Luck

High 50's temp wise yesterday with another "concrete truck following assist" on the interstate part of my return segment. 63 mpg with that run.

33 degrees this AM. The traffic is definitely dropping off - drove 24 miles before I saw any headlights in the rear view mirror. An excellent opportunity to P&G for most of the segment though, and I tried not to waste it. 61.x mpg pulling into the parking lot at work.

Consistent 60.x in the AM and 63.x in the PM. The tank is now at 62 for 400 miles.

Pretty lousy this morning. Temps were between 23-26F and I walked out to find an incredibly thick layer of frost on the entire car. I scraped the glass as best I could but still had to spend a few minutes with the defroster before it was safe to drive off. After that I avoided using the climate control since it seems to prevent engine shut-down but eventually gave in. Just barely dragged it up to 50.8mpg as I rolled into the parking lot.

Played hooky today so I don't have any commute results. I did however fill my tank this evening. I traveled 444.3 miles and used 8.316 gallons for 53.427 mpg. With the weather having trouble making up it's mind whether to have winter temps or spring temps, the awesome looking new graph in the mileage log(THANKS TOM!) looks like some sort of a pattern on an oscilloscope screen.:D

43 mpg for the drive home lastnight after my auto dealer romp. 43 mpg for the drive in this morning. In both case's I drove the car like a stole it. Temps in the high 40's with no wind. Slightly wet roads from all the rain.

74.x MPG at 38F. Light work traffic due to the holidays is helping.

I was wondering how my first winter would go rearding fuel economy. Barring any cold snaps (for our area); I think it is feasible to average 70+ mpg year round. I seem to be able to maintain low 70.x mpg with temps from 28F to 55F. :)

Here's my contribution for the day:

http://www.cleanmpg.com/photos/data/500/aFCD_resized.jpg

That's my best segment to date. A little highway time but mostly doing my best to find P&G opportunities through the back roads. I was over 71mpg for a while but killed it going up-hill.

Great job Brick! You will be surpassing me soon.:woot:

62.0 on this morning's commute, a PB on that leg. After the drive home, all of my driving for the remainder of 06 will be in the RAV 4. My wife has managed to whittle down the current tank from 34.x where I left it to 29.7:eek: . After some more whittling today I will fill it tomorrow. Perhaps I can salvage 30 on the way to the gas station.:p

Well, today was the last work day of the year...for my wife. Mine was yesterday.:D Anyway, the trip to my wife's work was 53.3. Since I didn't have to go to work, I went home.:woot: I was able to get 60.7 by the time I got backed into my garage. When I went to pick up the wife this afternoon, I had to run a mini errand. It was a good thing too. It gave the engine time to warm up before I started the trip to pick up my wife. I coasted into her parking lot with 69.9 showing on the SG. I would have coasted a little further but her lot isn't big enough. :( When I left there, I had to run to my mom's and had 50.7 on the SG. I then went across the little town to the bank(1.9 miles) and managed a 41.4. Then, it really got good. On the way home from the bank, I had 71.2 showing by the time I got backed into the garage.:woot:

It could have been even uglier; you could've gotten EPA.

After the 62 personal best to work yesterday, I was faced with driving rain on the way home. I had to pull out all of the stops (CC set to 55 instead of 60) to end up with a 60.3 RT. So about 58 MPG at 55 MPH in the rain compared to 67 MPG at 55 on dry roads. I don't know what is worse, cold weather or rain.

Filled the civic up today for 44 mpg. Then made a trip to the wifes family gathering. Its always a hoot. Had temps in the low 40's, light wind, damp with mist going, rain and rather wet coming back. I used two tactics for this trip of over 140 miles. I stayed under the posted speed limit and used load driving for the trip. No fas'ing, no engine off at lights, no ridge riding nor drafting. This gave me 42 mpg ave for the trip.
