Join the club. I-40 has been shut down for months near the NC/TN state line due to a massive landslide(s).

Hi Chuck:

___I went to the Chicago and National Majors but did not find the vid. It showed a landslide and they had a reporter and camera crew on the scene. While there, a guy drove right up into the ricks and debris. He was interviewed right after and said he saw all the camera crew trucks but did not see the landslide crossing the entire road about 20’ high until it was too late. He was fortunate to have not been seriously hurt when his car climbed up the debris.

___Basjoos, is that the Interstate that has been closed down for like 6-months for repair? I have not driven that way in quite some time but I know Kacey talks about having to bypass it with a 200-mile out of the way drive hen he heads up this way?

___Good Luck

Xcel, they're saying that it will be at May (assuming no more additional rockslides) before they will be able to reopen I-40. This is what happens when politicians trump road engineers in deciding the route for a new highway. The engineers wanted to run I-40 through the mountains along the French Broad valley where there are stable rock formations. But some politician in the Waynesville area with a lot of pull got them to run the interstate through the Pigeon River gorge, even though the rock formations there are very unstable. This decision has resulted in a lot of down time for the highway while they cleared one rockslide after another during the years that the interstate has been opened and it has cost a number of motorists their lives when they happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time when the rocks started to slide.
