Cheated again! Oh well.

Welcome to a new week and continued upward trending in temperature readings. :)

Well that stay at work was rather shorter than I had anticipated. My daughter has a fever again so I had to drive home.

At least the coolant wasn't completely down to ambient temp yet. 60F is better than 35F!

35F (28F windchill), 9mph tail/crosswind from the S, overcast and wet roads:

91.6mpg for 22.5mi (Work to home)

The tank is up to 86.0mpg over 505.4mi with 10 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.

Day Total: 90.2mpg over 45.3mi

Man is it ever amazing how much the Prius comes alive when the temperature goes over 45F.:) We hit a high of 57F here and the wind was S@ <5 mph.
71.3 19.0-to wife's work and back
80 19.2-to wife's work and back
Average for today was 75.4 mpg. If the weather holds for a couple more days, I think I'll go get the Ecopia tires put back on and just drive the wife's Saturn if we do get any more snow.

Golab warming is back here in florida:D high was near 70 today. and latwer this week will be clsoe to 80 :woot:

today wasn't bad at all. was still cool in morning but temp had started to rise by the time i left for work this morning.

40.2- 7.2 mile to work. was seeing some better numbers at certain checkpoints but had traffic and that last light got me! :(

44.6- 6.2 mile home this has me wondering. high temp was 70, but by the time i left for home was down to 62. maybe the warmer air earlier helped with the car being warmer?? I am also noticing coasting seems to have increased speedwise. I did catch the green light coming out of my loop and that helped get me over 44.

60.6 home last night after a dinner out, with child #1 on board. It was raining. Halfway home I heard the dreaded "I have to go". She didn't have to 10 minutes earlier when we asked her, before leaving the restaurant. I drove faster the rest of the way.

77.1 this morning at 55 degrees.

The tank is down from last night, back up part of the way this morning, to 67.5 / 330 miles.

No numbers yesterday because i rode the bicycle to school. If everything works out i should be using the bicycle again tomorrow instead of the car.

Couldn't ask for better conditions, except maybe a little warmer. This morning it was 38F with calm winds. On the way home this afternoon it was 50F with winds from the NNW @ 16mph actually giving me a nice tail wind.

- 48.4mpg for 22.6 miles from home to the gym
- 40.6mpg for 6.2 miles from the gym to school
- 45.4mpg for 23.4 miles from school to home

I went home for lunch. It was a nice day - 75 degrees.

76.7 / 10.7 miles home, with a tailwind.
79.7 / 9.5 back to work, headwind and different route. My usual was closed for road maintenance - badly needed. This put me onto the heavier traffic 2-lane so I had to go faster. Probably would have been 90 mpg or so without that reversal and rerouting.

Tank is up to 68.1 / 350 miles.

Lil cool this morning, but with it being early i basicly had the road to myself and could coast to my "fav" light.

41.1- 7.2 mile temp was 51.

was cloudy here so i didn't expect much and right off got held up at work while someone had to manuver back and forth to make it into a parking space.
I also go a horn beeped at me as i turned onto my street.

40.9- 6.2 mile home temp was 69. oh well gotta take what I'm given.

tank sitting at 305 mile 41.4

4:55 pm: all day long been cloudy and now finaly the sun comes out. it's a conspiricy!!

A good fillup yesterday! It's a bit short as I am lending the car to a friend for the day, and I didn't want them to look at the fuel gauge and freak out. Or have their driving "contaminate" my tank... ;)

47+ MPG makes it one of my better tanks. Unfortunately, I think most of that was due to rather more freeway driving than average, so I think the fuel usage per day is higher. But keeping MB at a steady 50 MPH (up to 55 sometimes) works very well at pulling good FE numbers. I used high-speed P&G for a trip on I-280, which has definite hilly sections. I would pulse uphill, or on longer hills I would just maintain 50 MPH, then I would glide (frequently in FAS) on the downhill. For flatter roads, I just stay at 50.

My CleanMPG average is almost up to 150% of EPA! I'd love to see it get there soon...

Back from the dentist and we saved the tooth! :) He sadi it was an important one to try and keep so i said go ahead and save him. unfortunately i was epecting to have it pulled so i drove the 1.5 miles to the office.

took a diff route home and got stuck in traffic. the rode my bike to the grocery store for two prescriptions only to find they don't have a pharmacy there. and to top it off I left the key for my bike lock at home so had to walk half mile home. so i went to the store with the pharmcy and took a diff route home from before i did ok.

total for today was only 37.x last trip was 45.x and that saved me. tank down to 41.3 now 328 miles.

Temp here is 80 right now! :D

Spring breakers are here now.

It started out fairly warm this morning. I had 47F. For segments 2, 3, and 4 the temp was 55F. By the time I got to segments 5 & 6, we got up to 62F. The wind was SSE@ 5-15 with gusts to 25 mph.

66.7 7.3-to tire store to get snows off
62.9 2.7-tire store to gas station
92.8 8.7-station to home
104 11.4-to wife's work-It's awesome what 60F+, LRR tires, and a moderate tailwind can do :)

Sean - what do you need as a final tank number, to maintain your 90 lifetime?

81.2 / 10.7 home, 76 degrees
77 / 10.6 this am, 46 degrees

Tank is up to 69.4 / 398 miles and about 3/4 on the gauge.

Right Lane Cruiser
03-11-2010, 10:12 AM
Good question, Andrew. If I could fill up right now without moving the car any further (and the pump agreed with my FCD) I'd be at 90.1mpg. Projecting forward, I've got 7 more bars after the one I'm on which ends up being somewhere around 7.5*45mi=337.5mi until I need to fill. With a tank total distance of 946.5mi I would need...

27483.7mi + 946.5mi = 28430.2mi

28430.2mi / 90.0mpg = 315.891g

Total used so far = 304.618g

315.891g - 304.618g = 11.273g for the tank

So I need to achieve a minimum of 946.5mi/11.273g = 83.96mpg to maintain at least 90mpg for my lifetime average (over the assumed distance). If I drive a little further of course the number will need to be higher. A little less and it can be lower.

Ideally, I'd like to halt the slide completely. For that, I'd need...

28430.2mi / 90.223mpg = 315.075g

315.075 - 304.618 = 10.457g

946.5mi/10.457g = 90.51mpg

Based on my current usage, from this point on I'd need to average...

10.457g - 609mi/86.2g = 3.392g

337.5mi/3.392g = 99.49mpg

That one is unlikely to happen. :o I should be okay for the goal of keeping my lifetime above 90mpg, though!

PaleMelanesian
03-11-2010, 11:22 AM
That's (generally) good news, Sean!

I went to a school play at my daughter's pre-K school. Overwhelming cuteness, of course!

61.1 / 3.8 going there.
99.2 / 3.6 coming back. :D (same route as my best-ever segment of 105, and my 3rd best on ANY route EVER)

Tank is steady at 69.4 / 405.

This again illustrates the problem with mpg-based math instead of gpm. The round-trip was 75.1 mpg, not 80 like a simple average would give. Total fuel used / total distance.

Right Lane Cruiser
03-11-2010, 12:48 PM

What a messy day! i got lucky in that i got to work before the sky opened up and it sure did!! didn't get so lucky when came time to check in my delivery. started pouring and had all kinds of wet boxes to put away.

43.1- 7.2 mile to work. temp was 65 at 5:20 am

40.3 7.3 mile home. wind was coming from the s.e which is almost 100% headwind. instead of doing my loop i went through the light and made the next turn around and then had a nice tailwind and once i saw light was green i coasted about 1/2mile to make my turn.

also coming from work up that long 2 mile straight road. Unless the light goes green when i'm at a certain sign I know i won't make it so i won't even try. but the cars behind me seem to thionk that i should and today i saw in mirror car behind me the driver shaking his hands.I moved over to do a lil RR so he had a chance to pass but he didn't bite.
