Ford of Canada announced it will become the first automaker to assemble hybrid vehicles in Canada, the Dow Jones Newswires reported.
Ford's plant in Oakville, Ontario, will assemble the hybrid versions of the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossover utility vehicles in time for the 2007 model year with the hybrid versions to be in volume production by 2010, the story said.
By 2008 Ford will have five hybrid models on the road.
In preparation for the new products, the Oakville plant is undergoing an $860 million conversion to equip it for flexible manufacturing.
