Here we are half way through February already!

The roads fooled me this morning. I had good surfaces for the first part of my route but they got progressively worse as I drove... and the typical Monday traffic had me stopping at several lights I really wish I hadn't had to. :p

23F (12F windchill), 12mph cross/tailwind from the NNW, overcast with lightly plowed roads:

73.5mpg for 22.8mi (Home to work)

The tank is back down to 76.1mpg over 685.2mi with 3 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.

I hope it is a good week for everyone!

38.4- 7.1 miles to work. temp was 43 at 5:15 today and the nest week is gonna be aorund the same in morning. but they say they days will be 60's to 70's which will help out.

41.1- 6.2 miles home. temp was 64.

253 miles and dash guage sitting a needles width under half.

Had a lil "scare" today that got my heart going a bit extra. I was on the main strech of road and only 1 car behind me and we was coming up to a flyover. The car behind me jumped into the left hand lane and seeing as we was only cars on road i started a "fas" half way up the flyover and when the car passed me it was a police officer!! I was doing under 30 when this happened and I knew he must have been watching me, but he kept on going and was soon out of site.

Mike, I've had that happen every once in a while but have never been pulled over (except for that one time I was only going about 6mph looking for Larry's house :o) Don't worry about it too much. :)

The roads were nicer on the way home today but that wind was rough.

28F (15F windchill), 16-19mph head/crosswind from the N, partly cloudy:

82.0mpg for 22.5mi (Work to home)

The tank is back up to 76.3mpg over 707.8mi with 2 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.

Day Total: 77.5mpg over 45.4mi

My battery seems to be hurting. I need to get permission from Da Boss to park my car in the garage one night so I can pop the charger on it...

As a result, little FAS for me. That's one of my main weapons in the FE battle, so my numbers are hurting. The rain we got earlier this tank also didn't help matters.

Still, just over 40 MPG. I'll take it!

40.4- 7.1 miles to work. had what sound like a low tire so stopped under a street light to check them out to make sure, all was ok pressure wise. probly could have made 41 here buit any run over 40 this time of year is fine.

41.8- 6.2 miles home got stuck behind a work van and i tried giving him some room, but i'd soon catch up to him. My torque converter locksup at 42 and i can slide down to about 37-38. that as light as i can go. after that my foot comes off the pedal and the T.C unlocks and the rpms jump up and I have to get back to 42mph again.

Hi, Mike -- I had "Custom Wavefront LASIK" done on Wednesday. Essentially it does does spot analysis of many many points on the cornea by sending light through it and measuring the refraction of the reflected beams. From that measurement it can back calculate the exact thickness and surface angles for specific correction needed at each sample location. Interpolation gets the points between with a smoothing function.

Standard LASIK is more along the lines of applying (roughly) the sort of correction factors involved in grinding a spectacle lens -- overall it is quite good but not point by point optimized.

I've still got some haziness (most noticeable as fuzzing around light sources at night... very similar to what you see through a lightly fogged windshield), and acuity is still fluctuating a bit due to the healing process (it has only been 2 days :o), but I tested out at 20:20 yesterday morning in spite of these factors. I'm told the haziness should be gone around the 2 week mark and that there is another "jump" in visual acuity at around the 8 week mark. Meanwhile, I have to use an assortment of eyedrops every 1-1.5hrs for a couple of weeks.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the results. I've been wearing corrective lenses for 21yrs and it is phenomenal to be able to see perfectly as soon as I wake up in the morning! :D

Congrats!

I had LASIK done 5 years ago and I LOVE it. But after 30+ years of wearing glasses I still find myself reaching to take them off when I go to bed or get in the shower. :o

The custom wavefront stuff was out then, but i wasn't a candidate for that, so it's standard LASIK for me.

After 2 months I was at 20:15, but shortly after that it settled back to 20:20 and is still there.

Thanks! So far I just can't believe how good my eyesight is... even though I still have "haze" to work through. :) The full benefit will hit once I'm through with this course of eye drops (in another 2.5wks) I'm sure.

I wore corrective lenses for 21yrs, and contacts for the last 10 of them... but I still reach for my glasses, too. :o

Taliesin

What did your eyesight start at?

I was beyond blind with over 20:800 before the surgery.

It was a close call for me. If my cornea had been any thinner than normal they wouldn't have been able to take enough off.

Right Lane Cruiser
02-22-2010, 09:20 PM
I'll have to see if I can locate the prescription, but I wasn't that bad off. What I can tell you is that the furthest out I could read with my right eye was about 8" away (great for not needing a magnifying lens ) and had to really struggle with arms length for my left eye. This is with normal paperback print. The left eye also had astigmatism that could make clearly separated doubles of print at just 2' (so, trying to read something in my lap while sitting up).

Apparently I've got plenty of cornea left so any tweaks shouldn't be an issue. Sounds like you really had a life altering change -- I'm so glad this procedure is an option!

Taliesin
02-22-2010, 09:28 PM
What I can tell you is that the furthest out I could read with my right eye was about 8" away...

My perscription was -8/-8.25.

4" was my reading distance without glasses.... I could "almost" read the big "E" on the eye charts.

I hear you about the magnifying glass. Painting fine details on a 28mm model just isn't the same anymore.
