View Full Version : What scrapes going over a hump?

The 2003 HCH1 scraped its bottom today going out of a driveway with a big hump between the parking lot and the street. Oddly it didn't scrape anything when it went over the hump in the other direction going into that store's parking lot. The front wheels were over the top and heading down, and I guess the back wheels were still going up, and the bottom scraped somewhere aft of the front wheels on the pavement on top of the hump. Nasty metal on concrete sound. I took a quick glance and didn't see anything too traumatic, but it was raining, and I didn't feel like crawling around in the muck, so the inspection was cursory.

Tomorrow, when it is a bit drier, what should I look for? Or rather, what's the lowest point on an HCH1 behind the front wheels, and what sort of damage might result if it gets dragged on pavement?

Thanks.

So I looked and didn't find anything that looked like a fresh scrape. The third most posterior of the brackets on the passenger side that support the high voltage wiring was very banged up, with the rectangular tunnel it bolts to smashed into an odd shape for a few inches, but that looked like an old injury.

The heat shields on the exhaust looked a little funky, since there was a small one anterior, with a 2 inch (or so) gap between it and what looks like a catalytic converter or its shield. But it was all tight and none of if was scraped. Is that gap supposed to be there, or did the car lose a small heat shield that is supposed to connect the other two?
