how to convert a 2003 ford escape from 4wd to 2wd

Try a search ... a few months ago there was a thread (I think from 98CRV?) about converting a CR-V from 4wd to 2wd. Presumably the procedure would be somewhat similar on an Escape. Should be a good for a couple of mpg. Probably not enough to pay for itself unless you all do the work yourself, but for most of us saving fuel is about more than just money.

I rented a 2wd Escape this summer and did a fair amount of dirt-road driving with it. Off pavement, one of the most capable 2wd vehicles I've ever been in. There are VERY few people who wouldn't be able to get where they need to go in a 2wd Escape equipped with winter tires.
