The HCH1 has been sitting unused in the garage since Friday, and it has been cold and rainy. We went out shopping this morning (Sunday) in the other car, which is parked in the driveway. About 5 minutes after we got back a horn starts beeping. "Gee, that's close" says the wife, so we go out in the driveway, realize it is coming from our garage, and open the door just in time to see the taillights flashing in sync with the horn. My wife thinks the headlights were going too, but I wasn't at an angle to see. Then it stopped, after maybe 30 seconds total. Just as if the car had an alarm system, and it was triggered by cold or one of the many critters that live in our garage. Except, as far as I know, and I have _all_ the service records since the previous and only other owner bought the car, there isn't one. Just the "code" business with the radio, which when enabled is associated with a flashing anti-theft LED on the radio. There is nothing in the manual about that being able to flash the lights and horn. Can anything else cause this event on a stock HCH1? The car started normally, and there were no warning lights once it was going.
Did Honda offer a factory antitheft system on this car? The one thing I don't have is the original purchase documents, so if such a system was on the car when they bought it from the dealer, that would explain how it could be there undocumented.
