View Full Version : HS250h - Weeks 7 & 8

It's has become colder the last two weeks and mileage has been taking a hit. Only able to get 43.8 (394mi) and 43.3 (285mi) mpg for weeks 7/8. Mornings have been mostly in the 30's and a few 20's. Some rain and winds mixed in also.

- No surprise ... it's taking longer for the engine to warm up. Probably another 2-3 minutes so it's up to about 8 minutes. ICE wants to stay running more giving more chances to figure out and try to use SHM, "SHM like", or warp stealth modes (ICE running w/IGN at 18/19/20 or 5). Still very much a work in process.

- Changed the oil at 2K to Amsoil 0w20 filled to half way between the marks on the dipstick. I can't prove it ... but my sense is the engine seems to run a bit easier afterwards.

- Now have 2600 miles on the vehicle. It "feel's" like it is starting to break-in.

- Big disclaimer on this note (it's all personnel preference). I have found the audio to sound "better" with bass = -2, mid = +2, treble = +2. It's not the ML audio ... but it is an improvement and removes some of the bass "tubbyness".

No surprise here ... but I continue to be pleased with the HS250h. I think the key being happy with it ... is to understand the "compromises" that went into it and being able to accept them.

A question ... is there any value in continuing to post about "life with the HS250h"?

I like hearing your personal observations and experiences with ownership which is a key difference to the review perspective:

Yep - I'm keeping with you... specially now with it breaking in, amsoil in it, and the challenge of cooler temps!!

I would compile all the threads into a HS250 write-up. Include the weather conditions, mileage improvement and decreases and mileage intervals. "The life of an HS250H"

For me I'd say "yes" (as long as only very positive things are posted while I anxiously await my special ordered 250h and dont want to heave bad things and experience buyers remorse! :) )

Yes, please continue! There aren't many HS owners here and it is interesting to hear an owner's perspective on the vehicle.

I have a 250h like yours with 3000 miles but my mileage is terrible, usually about 27 mpg in town. The dealer says it checks out perfectly. How do you get 44? I'd be happy to get the sticker mileage of 34, but right now I feel like I've been had!

Several things certainly go into it.

I would suggest looking at the following threads as a starting point:

The journey to better mileage:

Lexus HS250h Mileage Tips for Beginners:

Life with the HS250h (this is the thread I will post to in the future):
http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=27764

These threads discuss how I've achieved (or not) the mpg.

I'm confident it's not the car ... I've driven loaners that were not "set up" and been able to get between 42-44 mpg with them.

There are many individuals here that are willing to help you with "your journey". It really is a journey and not a "quick fix".
