View Full Version : F150 rants at "socialist hybrid" during rush hour
Chuck 12-03-2009, 04:15 PM There was a long line at the traffic light and I pulled out at about the same speed as most of the traffic as soon as it turned green.
A black F150 passed me to cruise at the posted limit + 20
Kind of distraced as he was gesturing for five seconds...he could crash and become a ward of the state. :D
"It was a hybrid - he MUST be a socialist!!!"
bomber991 12-04-2009, 02:20 AM I wonder if it's the car you drive or the stickers on it that attract all this rude behavior? I notice people always pull out in front of me when I'm driving my dads prius but otherwise things seem to be normal. He's got a disabled vet license plate though so maybe people hold back the asshatery because of that.
Or... maybe people in the dallas area are jerks. I don't know cause I've never been there but they never seemed too friendly on Walker Texas Ranger.

LOL :D - Dale
phoebeisis 12-04-2009, 07:43 AM When I pass thru TX the drivers seem pretty polite-EXCEPT IN DFW ON I-635 WHERE THEY ARE TRUELY OUT OF THEIR FREAKIN' MINDS. I don't know what it is about that big circle road-maybe the 100 foot altitude-but the hour I spend on I-635 is always interesting; cops chasing Impala with 24" wheels; 120 mph Corvettes blowing by so fast, I want to get out an see why I've stalled, herds of crotch rockets lane splitting thru-always something to keep me on my toes. I'm usually going thru there at 10 pm Sat night or 6 am Sunday morning, so it isn't as if it was rush hour behavior.
Crazy drivers on DFW interstates,
Charlie
WHO DAT!!
PaleMelanesian 12-04-2009, 07:55 AM Charlie, have you tried taking I-20 to Fort Worth and then cutting north from there? In my experience that's the less-crazy side of town.
Chalupa102 12-04-2009, 09:47 AM I wonder if it's the car you drive or the stickers on it that attract all this rude behavior?
I used to think this way too, but the other day i was driving my mom's Ford Explorer back from the gas station after getting air in her tires. There's a road that the psl is 25 MPH with a slight downhill and there's a traffic light where u can turn left or continue to go straight. Most people like to speed on that road and go 40, but not me. I was going between 25-30 doing engine braking so i would maintain my speed and this Toyota Rav4 pulled up behind me and started tailgating like crazy. I don't let tailgaters bother me in my Corolla and certainly didn't let this guy bother me when i was driving a way bigger vehicle. I stopped at the light cuz it had turned red and the guy pulled up next to me like he was going to turn left. As soon as the light turned green, he gunned it and passed me. He had to stop at the next light further down, so he didn't get very far at all, and i just coasted up right behind him seconds later saving a lot more fuel and brakes than he did. Soon as the light turned green we both turned left and he turned right onto a side street, and i continued straight. People like this make me wonder what they try to prove when they do a stupid move like what the Rav4 did .
drimportracing 12-04-2009, 11:36 AM People like this make me wonder what they try to prove when they do a stupid move like what the Rav4 did .
What he proved is:
He can't comprehend an outcome more than one car length in front of his RAV4's hood.
He thinks he is entitled to discard safety and the law for a perceived opportunity.
His judgment is clouded by irrational thinking.
His emotions instead of his brain drive his vehicle.
Which might make it a wash, considering the latter may not have been exercised much.
And unbeknown to him he also proves that hypermiling is an intelligent way to safely save fuel and separate yourself from the "pack ignorance" of the road. :D - Dale
Chuck 12-04-2009, 10:09 PM Incidents like this have pretty much convinced me that a lot of men on the road are just as hysterical as women have been made out to be.

This crazy dude in the F150 considers himself "patriotic" in a speeding FSP - sending more money to unfriendly nations lent by foreign banks for the gas he spews. ... he has no idea what conservative is or common sense...I'm going to blame Detroit's past marketing and talk radio for a lot of this madness.
Chuck 12-04-2009, 11:08 PM I think the dude in the F150 has the same mindset as this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nd1P2PQMH_M). :p

I have an American Flag sticker right beside my gas door on my Metro and I feel I give less to the middle east than some guy in a truck who I made a point of evaluating his hypermiling or lack there of. I guess we all are patriotic in our own way.
I would rather my money go to an old Japanese car that gets 43mpg than send 2.5 times more money to Big Oil (middle east) to travel the same distance regardless of the make of vehicle.
Here is the link where I Googled the pic: http://blogs.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=blog.view&friendId=68306967&blogId=279451441 It's a blog on some guy's myspace page and he gives percentages of cars manufactured in the USA. The numbers are a few years old but it is interesting.

phoebeisis 12-05-2009, 09:19 AM Andrew,
No I've always taken( probably 20 times in the last 9 years)-I-20 to the beginning of the circle road-I-635 which circles N then W -and I get off about mile 25 or so and take I-35 to Denton, then head W on -I forget-then WNW on Hy 287 to Amarillo. So taking I-20 deeper into the DFW area might be less wild? I think there is a way of staying on I-20 that actually gets me on 287 earlier, but it involved more driving on unlimited access state roads.
I'll check it out on the maps. Thanks

He assumes his F150 is made in the US:
Dearborn, Michigan, USA
Kansas City, Missouri, USA
São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil
Valencia, Venezuela
Cuautitlan, Mexico...but let's not let facts get in the way of his feelings. ;)
Shiba3420 12-07-2009, 07:41 AM And lets not forget....they aren't "made" in the factory, they are assembled with parts coming in from places both near and far.
PaleMelanesian 12-07-2009, 09:25 AM Charlie, this is what I was thinking of. 20 to the south of Dallas is less crowded most of the time, since it goes around the city more than through it. Fort Worth is not such a big deal.

Chuck 12-07-2009, 09:34 AM Most cities grow north, and Dallas is no exception. Fort Worth has always been slower-paced than Dallas with traffic that is definitely friendlier.
phoebeisis 12-07-2009, 10:38 AM Andrew/Chuck- thanks. Next time I'll try that more southern route to get to Denton, and then to Hy 287.The I-635 route circling north then West is always more entertaining than I'm up for after 11 hours of driving.
Going to Flagstaff AZ we usually spend the night about 750 miles from NOLA in Childress which is about 80 miles past Wichita Falls on 287.

PS I see the Cowgirls started their December swoon yesterday. The Saints were pure Lucky-I actually feel sorry for Washington.

Oh, that's a low blow. :p
Chuck 12-07-2009, 10:54 AM Charlie,
Try driving on I635 with a Saints sticker in a couple of weeks. :p
phoebeisis 12-07-2009, 11:42 AM Ha,Ha-I'll pass on that!!

PS I noticed that Tony R was a stunning 11/25/1 .He is in late season form already!! Couldn't resist!!
PPS I have no idea how the Saints won-they had two critical reviews go in their favor-one overturned the ruling on the field.
PPPS- I just noticed that I got the stats backwards.Romo was something like 41/55/ for HUGE YARDS and Eli Manning was 11/25/1 for very few yards.BUT THE COWGIRLS LOST!! How do you lose when your QB plays that well, and the other QB plays that poorly???
Chuck 12-07-2009, 11:51 AM I actually think yesterday the Cows could have beaten the Saints
phoebeisis 12-07-2009, 01:39 PM Chuck,
Yep, the Saints stunk it up yesterday. They made the other QB look ALL WORLD.Now our defense is missing 4 starters,so.....
Yes,I won't be surprised to see the Saints lose to the CGs.We are lucking out.
WHO DAT,
Charlie

I can think of few better motives to shock people out of road rage/aggressive driving than a coworker saw them and it was discussed at the workplace. ;)
phoebeisis 12-09-2009, 04:39 PM Folks in TX are generally very nice. The state is HUGE it takes us about 20 hours(maybe 13 actually driving) to cross it E>W W>E. We take our time, and stop maybe every 2.5 hours (eat, walks dog/dogs, stretch legs at rest stop, sleep at rest stop), so we spend a fair amount of time passing the time of day with folks in gas stations, rest stops, whatever.
The folks are always pretty nice.On the roads- outside DWF- the drivers are pretty polite.
There is something about DWF and the interstates around DWF that just makes them temporarily crazy.

Chuck 12-09-2009, 04:49 PM Charlie,
