Hey everyone. My name is Sean.

I drive a 1997 Ford Taurus GL sedan.

So far for hypermiling I've deleted both side mirrors... and that's about it. Although I have replaced my bumpers and rear spoiler to body panels from a Taurus SHO (bit of a different shape).

I'm actively keeping a fuel log at ecomodder.com and post there occasionally, but I found this site through a link in an article that a friend posted on twitter. I figure another opinion is always helpful!

My car is rated at 20 MPG combined, but I've almost always gotten around 22 MPG.

I have a 18.4 mile round trip to work 3 days a week. Going to work, the commute is rural roads at 45 mph, with a short bit on a 25 mph road. Coming home I stay on the highway which is 55, but I have to go through several streetlights and usually get stopped at 2 or 3.

I also am a full time student. In one week, I drive ~90 miles, 50 miles of which is on the expressway (5 miles at a time). The rest is roads at 45 mph.

I also have another class once a week that is a 45-52 mile round trip (depending on what route I take).

For one of my classes (3 times a week) I end up spending about 5-10 minutes (average) idling in the parking lot trying to find a spot. The other classes (and at work) I have no problem at all finding a parking spot.

It said to talk about my commute as a starting topic, but I have to admit I felt funny typing all that. Oh well.....

Any advice? THANKS :D

Hello Sean, welcome to CleanMPG! Lots of help here from people who do this everyday. It would seem like there's a lot of room for improvement. My car is rated 21mpg combined. Once you have modified your driving techniques, you'll be seeing much better mileage.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I've bookmarked that link to read another time. It's Midnight so I'm about to go to bed.

Also... sad to say that last week I installed new spark plugs and wires (plugs were changed either never or once and wires were factory original) and it doesn't seem to have helped at all. This tank was actually worse than usual though, so it might have been some other factor.
