Welcome back to the grind!

Most things just didn't seem to be going my way this morning. I forgot to reset the timer clock on my block heater so the car cold soaked for 50min before I left. 85F instead of 125F is a big difference. :( It also appears that a bunch of people decided they could leave earlier so I got stopped at way more lights this morning than normal. :p

Oh well.

34F (28F windchill), 7mph tail/crosswind from the WNW, clear:

92.8mpg for 22.8mi (Home to work)

The tank is down to 98.2mpg over 265.3mi with 17 of 20 bars remaining on the fuel gauge.

The weekend's driving was good-bad-good-bad, as in 75-50-72-55 mpgs. The tank dropped from 70.7 to 70.2 as of last night.

This morning was better. 75.5 mpg to work at 53 degrees. I added back 2 tenths to the tank average, at 415 miles and 3/4 on the fuel gauge.

65.1 mpg over 9.7 miles into work this morning. Temp 47F.

Not as cold as your mornin' Sean but still enough to bite a chunk out of the FE. :p My morning warming ups will be drastically shortened starting Wed. The EBH is on the truck for delivery today! :woot: Install set for Tues evening with a friend.

I'd love to see you hold onto that 70+ tank Andrew but my competitive side is routing the opposite. ;) Good job adding those tenths!

I couldn't pass up this opportunity. It was sunny and 70 degrees out, so I went home for lunch. It was worth it. ;)

73.5 mpg / 10.7 miles home.
98.4 mpg / 10.7 miles back to work.
The tank is up to 70.9 / 437 miles now. :D

Over the weekend I insulated the underside of my hood. The car is definitely warming up faster and holding temperature longer while parked. It'll be very hard to measure it, though, with so many variables at play. Stephen, is your hood insulated already? Also, I felt some heat rising through the side gaps on the hood, so I might be adding some weatherstripping in there.

Stephen, it all hurts as far as I'm concerned!! You're going to like that EBH. ;)

Go Andrew!!! :D:thumbs_up: :flag:

Man!! That's a stiff wind out there! It is pretty much the reverse of what I drove through on Friday.

114mpg Friday with it at my back...

48F (41F windchill), 22-32mph headwind from the WNW, sunny:

91.6mpg for 20.0mi (Work to doctor's office)

Day Total: 92.3mpg over 42.8mi

Sean & Andrew - you are both killin' it! WOW. I wish I had that wind too.

Andrew - yes, I've had the engine bay blanketed w/ a hot water heater blanket since Aug. ;) It was a quick fit and doesn't cover the whole engine compartment. Good suggestion weather strip along the seams. Let me know how that works and what you used. I might modify mine if you think it helps with your warm winters. :p Right Sean?

Sean, you must have set a personal record for Nov. with that 114 mpg! Must have missed your post. Awesome :flag:

Yeah, the wind is just epic fail today. I filled up, and got about what I expected. That short fill became a normal fill today, so for the two tanks it's sitting on almost a 55 MPG average. Anywho, at 58 MPG over 48 miles averaged today.

Hi, Steven -- warm indeed! :)

I had to check back and actually I beat that number last year, but it was much warmer. Back on 11/03/2008 it was 66F with an 11mph tailwind from the SSE -- that was good for 136.0mpg over 21.8mi. It was much easier to hit numbers like that when gas prices were high and people drove a lot less aggressively!

Matthew, the wind is nice when it is behind you... not so much in any other direction. :p

The wind was still up there but I did okay on the way back to the house. The traffic was a bit lighter than usual and I tried a variation to my city bypass route that seems to be a good bit better than what I've been doing.

45F (36F windchill), 23-32mph wind from the WNW, sunny:

doing some testing now. I demodded my car except fpr tire pressure and seeing diff results at certain checkpoints, but overall doesn't seem to have changed my results at the end.

My grillblock was a piece of cardboard with some cheap vinyl material glued to it installed behind my grill and zip tied on. While it did help engine warmup. I'm thinking that the position it was in it was acting like a parachute rather than pushing the air over the car.

Had a short piece of exhaust pip in engine comepartment stuck againt my muffler and routed to my air box to get i.a.t up. i'd see iat temps up a lil but not til was close to work. maybe would work better on longer run or when weather is cooler

had a small piece of cardboard in front of rad and never realy check to see if that was helping. maybe put this one back on to see.

Right only thing changed on my car since i bought was increased tire pressure and also got the alignment adjusted. Oh and the SG too!!

Well, I must have left my numbers in the car. Going from memory:

71 mpg home. I lost a couple mpg at a highway merge - a huge cluster of traffic came and I had to stop dead, then gun it up to 55 to merge in. :(
68 mpg this morning. I lose a bit with a failed FAS - it was idling for about a minute. Calculating a minute of idle fuel usage, that would have been about 71 otherwise. :(

The tank still reads 71, though.

Some good and some bad...I've been staying in town lately at the girlfriend's place, so I haven't been driving nearly as many miles...bad news is, that means short trips. Engine barely even got to ~125* into work the other morning, I may see if I can store a bicycle over there instead.

Also, good weather here is allowing me some motorcycle time, so that will bring my mileage up as well :)

Weather got colder lately and this morning it was raining too. I constantly use heated gloves (2A power draw) when on the bike.
Haven't ridden much over 5°C lately, idle began to get higher even after several kms. Today I covered half of the radiator - it seems to work, I'll have to find some permanent solution, now it's a very makeshift one :)
Last week I had a pretty long 2-up ride on the freeway well over my usual speed and w/o P&G, I was mostly doing 110-120 and later had another 100-110 non-freeway ride (I was almost late from work, traffic was very slow out of the city Friday afternoon so I had to make up for it later), but I saved a lot of gas then when I stayed here because of the frost - I don't like to ride on any form of ice :o
In spite of the fast rides and extra weight and cold and rain Teresa still hasn't gone to reserve so she's doing better than the present 3.08l/100km (76.3mpg) so I'm basically satisfied. Result soon, I expect to get the reserve light on the way home (probably tomorrow, the forecast tells 0 degrees and probable thick fog for the next morning, sounds very unpleasant...)

Thanks, I'm doing what I can :)
I've read that you got better, good :)

Well, that 3.08l/100 is final for the last tank. When I started Teresa the reserve light came out in 10 meters :D But considering the weather and other circumstances I'm still satisfied. Last winter I could not do any better than 3.5l, so even this 3.08 is much better. We'll see what can I accomplish without fast 2-up rides and when I'll always ride even closer to freezepoint.

This morning the weather was much nicer than on Thursday, it was 6C and light fog instead of 2C and rain, so I got to work without getting soaked. The road was really wet so I tried some ridge riding where I could identify anything like a ridge - the inner side of the lane on the 2-lanes of Budapest and the right lane on the Székesfehérvár 4-lane on my way here. This really made sense because the outer lane has many ponds in the lengthwise delves (I don't know the correct English term for these 'valleys' made by the trucks and buses in the tarmac...)
The freeway is nice edge to edge.

My Sunday.

Went to the old time drag races in bradenton today! was all excited to get out and see how lil silver would do on the highway seeing as that how i am getting to Tenn for turkey day soon.

Got on the Highway showing 40.x on the SG and it went downhill from there! :( dern winds!!

Coming from the east and i was seeing The Sg instant readout showing 34-36 mpg. by the time i got to the track i managed to keep it over 36 mpg! Oh well guess I shouldn't complain with this compared to how some other here have it.

Return trip was a lil better cause ride from track to the highway had the tailwind and had 45 mpg showing when i merged onto the highway. The wind was stronger than earlier but due to engine being warmed up and air temp being warmer I kept it over 38 when i got off at my exit. I reset my current trip and by the time i pulled into my driveway the sg was showing 47.x current trip from when i got off highway.

Tank had started out at 42.1 and when i refueled the final tally was 38.35 mpg.

My first dose of winter!

On my last working day I got totally soaked on the way back home. Now I have a week off to dry my clothes :D
At least it wasn't cold: 9-10C. And the freeway looks GREAT at night in rain with all that mist and lights :)

Actually, that sounds scary!! I never liked seeing stuff like that when on my bicycle and I can't imagine I'd feel much different about it on a motorcycle... slippery!!
