Audi A3 Wagon and Hatch w/ Stop/Start now come with AT’s overseas.

The Start/Stop system turns the engine off as soon as the vehicle comes to a stop; the engine stays off as long as the driver depresses the brake pedal. As soon as the driver removes their foot from the brake pedal, Start/Stop turns the engine back on – quietly, conveniently and quickly.

In addition to impressive road holding, the new 1.6L TDI equipped A3 earns a 56 mpgUS combined rating on the NEDC. The 1.4L TFSI is rated at 44.4 mpgUS combined on the same.

The A3 1.6L is powered by a four-cylinder TDI delivering 105 HP at 4,400 rpm and 184 lb-ft of torque between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm. In conjunction with the S-tronic AT, the TDI propels the three-door A3 from 0 to 60 mph in 11.5 seconds with a top speed of 120 mph.

The A3 1.4 TFSI is capable of outputting 125 HP from its 1.39L engine with a maximum torque of 147.5 lb-ft between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm. In conjunction with the S-tronic AT, this vehicle accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 9.1 seconds and tops out at 126 mph.

Standard in both Start/Stop equipped A3 models is an on-board energy-recovery system. During braking and coasting phases, this system intelligently controls the alternator to recover additional energy which is stored in the battery. This energy is then fed back into the electrical system during acceleration reducing the load on the alternator which saves fuel. The energy-recovery system and the Start/Stop systems unleash their full potential in urban-driving conditions.

Audi will begin selling the A3 1.6 TDI and the A3 1.4 TFSI as a three-door and as a Sportback in November of 2009. Prices for the 1.4 TFSI remain unchanged at $34,600 USD (3-door) and $35,900 USD (Sportback). The new 1.6 TDI with S-tronic will sell at a base price of $37,230 USD for the 3-door and $38,544 USD for the Sportback.
