Sweet! I wonder how far up the MPG scale we'll be able to push it?

That's easy. Infinite MPG if you're pushing it...unless you count miles/PB&J as a legitimate calculation...:p:p:p

Me too. The 6-speed is great, but I think it's supposed to have a 1.5l ICE. 50% larger than the Insight-I, so this might be another performance hybrid?

Front end reminds me of current Audis and VW's. Wonder if such a big grille opening is really needed for air intake?

I thought it was supposed to be a performance coupe first, and hybrid second all along. That's why they put the manual in it, for the "thrill seekers." I bet it's short-geared, close ratio as well.

*EDIT* From the Honda USA website:

Shorthand for “Compact Renaissance Zero,” the CR-Z is a forward-thinking exercise in inspired design and environmental technology. The CR-Z draws its inspiration from a need to deliver spirited performance in an efficient manner. It’s all part of our commitment to help effect positive environmental change. So keep on the lookout for more details about the CR-Z.

Yup. Performance first.

HAHAHAH

How much preformance could it have with a 1.5L mill? Even with IMA. It won't be much. :) I bet it will pull like a R-18, 5MT Civic. If there is a saving grace concerning this car. Which I hope there is. It should be clean burning, I would hope it would handle better than the average Honda built now days and be knee deep in brakes, <<<<< wishful thinking,, I know. :p

It is a ugly grill. seems to be something Honda is working overtime on. Let's make them ugly. You want to see the worse front end I've ever seen look up the new MazdaSpeed3. Its horid!!!!! Makes the CR-Z look good, and it's crap!

I do agree the gill is a bit much.

I wish that honda would make this car like the first gen insight, a hard core hybrid. Toyota could bring (if they are still planning on making it) a 2 door prius to compete against it.

I like it, but I don't think I could pull it off. It looks like something designed specifically for people with sideways hats and shorts so long that they interfere with the pedals. And I'll be shocked to death (but very happy) if it isn't geared like a weed whacker.

Hi Tim:

___I drove a weed whacker (http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13674) once and it was good :D Almost 2.5X's the EPA in fact!

___I cannot wait to drive this weed whacker too ;)

“Compact Renaissance Zero", well that doesn't make much sense at all. Gotta love those stupid acronyms car companies use. At least "World Rally Experimental" kind of makes sense for my car :)

By the way, wtf does LX, DX, and EX mean for Hondas? I know one is the base model, middle model, and topped out luxury model, but I don't know the order either.

By the way, wtf does LX, DX, and EX mean for Hondas?

DX = stripped down
LX = middle of the road
EX = top end
EX-L = top end + leather

They had some other good trim lines like HX (non-hybrid civic with lean-burn) HF ("high fuel" which was the crazy-efficient CRX) Si (duh) etc.

For the first time in about 20 years, this is a Honda I would almost buy.

Know what's funny? A coworker just bought one of those this week (except probably the 1.8L version) and he was falling all over himself because he couldn't believe how good the gas mileage is. Not that it has anything to do with this thread,but it was nice to see a normal guy getting 44mpg in a car that's rated in the 30s!

As for the CR-Z, I'm changing my mind. If I'm stuck burning gasoline then I want one last car with a stick. I'll just get one in an inconspicuous color. ;)

What are they from most to least options? I think VP is minimum, but the names aren't much help sorting the rest out.

This car has the facial expression of a rat. Replace the side-view mirrors with pink ears and you have the Ratmobile, Ratman's spunky getaway car.

Does anyone buy a Honda for the looks, though? Honda EXCELS at producing ugly metal. I thought my gen 8 Civic sedan looked like a dustbuster, but bought it anyway based on safety, reliability, EPA, and handling better than a Toyota. Over time, the look has really grown on me, especially the ass.

That said, this strikes me as an excellent midlife-crisis car for people who have nothing to prove and just want a fun, reasonably priced ride that isn't in the shop once a quarter. I'm looking at you, GTI.

+1 on that. The Insight-I's shape is so simple and functional it's hard to call it "styling". No unnecessary creases, folds, and sharp edges.

Plus the CR-Z's grille is too much like those on so many other cars and trucks today: big and aggressive. Too busy trying to make a statement.

You know what? I think CRZ would look real mean with a carbon fiber hood. But then I'll be dealing with ricers at stoplights. Man, won't they be disappointed when I accelerate like grandma.
