Shortly after Mary Travers moved to Redding 33 years ago, she hung a green flag for environmental awareness outside on Earth Day. It caused a ruckus, with several in town upset that this “subversive” flag, and not the American flag, was hanging outside her Limekiln Road home. At that time, some people here did not know what green meant, said Mary Anne Guitar.

Ms. Guitar, a former first selectman and longtime friend of Ms. Travers’ late mother, Virginia Coigney, and her family, recalled the story on Thursday, reminiscing about the folk singer, the Mary of Peter Paul and Mary who died on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2009, at Danbury Hospital. awww, i will miss her. she was such a large part of my teen years, and beyond, of course. we all wanted that wonderful, swinging straight hair. and i just loved the way their voices melded together.....

puff the magic dragon is sad again.
